Hey everyone, I have a newer 130 that just has cross bars. (This is my wife's daily with the family, so I couldn't load it with gear like the good ol'disco!)

Has anyone attached an awning to the roof rails themselves? I've seen some hints to brakets that people have made but those links don't work anymore. Thanks!

 

You would need to attach the awning to a cross bar or rack. The direct roof rail attachment would not work and would possibly damage the rail and maybe the roof.

 

When I was shopping for a roof tent for my rig Roofnest has an awning that attaches to crossbars and it's a 270 degree awning.

We went a little different route. Kelly Backroads awning. With the no-notice mountain storms we deal with this allows us to drop sides. With the enclosed straps, we can attach it to the rear or over a side door.

 

I was looking at that Kelty shade. Another lightweight but slightly more expensive awning like this could also work: Moon Shade


I don't think it needs cross bars to attach to, just some place to clip it into.

They sell suction cup clippy gizmos that you could use to anchor this or you could get or something to go into the roof rails to attach the awning to.
