Default Battery Covered Under Warranty?

Folks,

Appears the “new to me” 2020 110S may need a new battery after 3 years and ~34K. Is that usually covered under the original warranty? My read is yes but welcome others’ experience in this one. My car has to go in for a service bulletin so figured I’d ask them to test it, assuming it’s due.

Thanks!

I asked about mine as I came out to a dead car one morning and also got the low battery warning later that day. I wasn't sure if I had left a light on overnight, a problem caused by some GAP coded I had done that evening or if my battery was going bad.

I got into the dealer a couple weeks later and they did a test on the battery - mine passed so they said it couldn't be replaced under warranty. As my vehicle is 3 years old, I elected to replace the battery for peace of mind purposes.

It needs to fail tier test to get warranty coverage.

Funny you should ask. I just had mine replaced under warranty yesterday. MY ‘22 X Dynamic-SE, took delivery early November ‘21. A little over two years on the road, just hit 12k miles and started getting the ‘BATTERY LOW, START ENGINE’ warning. Software updates weren’t happening either, so made an appointment at the dealer and was told they would check it out and if it failed tests they would replace it under warranty. A bit later the service manager came out and said, the vehicle is two+ years old with only 12k miles, you’re not driving it enough, that’s why, making me think they were trying to bail on the warranty replacement. It always seem they try to place blame on the owner for whatever issues arise to dodge the warranty claim. I explained to him that although the miles are low, it does not sit for days or weeks. It is used several times a week, and I am quite aware that any trip cannot be a run to the corner store, it is always run for at least an hour or more or driven 40+ miles each trip. Summary is, they replaced it under warranty, now I’m just waiting for the PIVI to update from 3.3.2 to the latest. I asked if they could force an update, to which he replied they can’t, even though I told him that this forum has numerous entries of owners claiming that their dealership was able to ‘force’ the update. Just happy to have the new battery, free of charge. Don’t let them dodge the replacement, let them know that this forum has many owners who have had theirs replaced, so this is a known issue.

Thanks for the replies, I just drove mine 800 miles on Monday, and then got the “low battery” alert yesterday, so I will force the issue with them. Thanks again.

^This was my exact experience too. 3 years, 35K miles on the failing battery, but it passed some test required by JLR so I had to pay for a new one. Total BS as it was still under warranty and should be replaced if it won't start the vehicle. Dealer claims that JLR sets the warranty rules.

Submariner2009: I would think that after a trip of 800 miles and you’re still getting a low battery warning that you are in definite need of a replacement.

PaulLR: What the dealer told you, about ‘the test’, made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I asked him if he was familiar with our forum, as there were MANY incidents of owners needing batteries well before it would normally be necessary, and in fact one owner was on his fourth battery, DogPilot I believe. Sorry to hear that yours passed their ‘test’ and they reneged on the warranty claim. I would call JLR corporate, armed with this information and see if they could intervene. Good luck.
