My dealer pushed back when I asked about small changes late in the timeline - as it got close to build he didn't want to risk losing the build slot if the changes sent the configuration back to the end of the line. I couldn't tell if he was just trying to avoid work; your experience suggests it was possible.
There is a date. I forget the correct term. Perhaps "Last Build Change Date". Before that, make all the changes you want. After that, it does impact your queue. If you are before that, the Sales Associate is just being lazy or doesn't understand things.

Just finished mine. Yes, I would have paid the 250 to have them done by the factory. OEM Parts cost me about half that and it took about 1.5 hours of my time. Oh well, only need the tools pictured and a torque wrench.
