Default Checking Oil level

How do you check oil level in the Defender P400? Have they reverted to a physical dipstick? The user guide says it's dipstick if fitted else go Menu - Vehicle - Service. When I do that on the menu I see miles to next service but no oil level info. On my Jaguar with the same PivoPro that screen displays miles to next service and also oil level

Am I missing something?

P300 and P400 cars have a physical dipstick, the V8 still has the digital readout.

Ah - good to know! I've had jags and land rovers for 15 years and all have been electronic. So it's a step back to the good old days!

Yeah, I was surprised to see the dipstick after having two LRs without them. With the exception of the Evoque and Disco Sport (which initially used Ford EcoBoost engines), the Ingenium engines are the first JLR engines to have a dipstick since the old 4.4 V8.

That explains how JLR must’ve forgotten how to make the simplest of things: a dipstick. I’ve never in my life experienced one that is as hard to feed into the tube without fear of kinking it as this one. Two handed, inch by inch, as I have to force it scraping and twisting its way down to the sump.

One of these days I’m going to have to find someone else w a p300 - or find one at a dealership - and see if theirs is as bad as mine. There’s no way.

Mine is pretty bad. I have to feed it in slowly and carefully.
