I'm guessing that you don't live in an area where they (heavily) salt or brine the roads. Regardless of how resilient you think the nameplate on the hood makes your vehicle, salt don't care.

Trying to keep that nasty stuff out of areas where it can cause catastrophic, costly damage is never a wasted effort - especially when a seemingly simple, low cost preventative measure might be available.
