Default Choosing Tires

I am looking to upgrade from the OEM GOODYEAR EAGLE F1 ASYMMETRIC SUV tires as found myself slipping around on snow a little in Lake Tahoe over thanksgiving weekend. Just wondering if anyone is running any of the following tires and what your experience has been. I drive mainly highway and city roads in California, but do get out in the snow in the winter and outdoors in the summer. So heavy snow is a major possibility during ski season and some wet driving around town December - January and gravel and minor mud in the summer when going rock climbing and backpacking. Have been looking at the following for my 2018 Disco with 20":
  1. GOODYEAR ASSURANCE WEATHERREADY - SIZE: 255/55R20
  2. PIRELLI SCORPION WINTER - SIZE: 255/55R20
  3. MICHELIN DEFENDER LTX M/S - SIZE: 255/55R20
What would you pick over the GOODYEAR EAGLE F1 ASYMMETRIC SUV? Any other tires I should look at? Seems like the Assurance Weatherready has the best ratings in Tirerack and performs on-par and even better that the Scorpions. The Defender appears to be better suited for off-road.

I’ll be picking up my Disco 5 this coming Friday and I’m going through the exact same selection process. Strongly considering going with the WeatherReady as they have the “Snow mountain” symbol that satisfy the winter tires requirement for my insurance policy and can be used all year round.

Just my 2c but if you want much better snow and cold weather traction I'd suggest a dedicated winter tire and keep the eagles for summer / fall. It's a heavy car and will chew through the soft rubber of a winter tire during s warm summer...

Check out the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015. It comes in 275/55R20 but not in 255/55R20 so it's a little bigger than stock.
Has a nice tread design, good reviews, and has the snowflake symbol plus a 60K mileage warranty.
That's the tire I think I'll buy in the spring. Right now I have Blizzaks winter tires that came with my D5 as a free extra.

I'm mounting a set of the Scorpions next week. A buddy is on his second set and claims they're better than the Conti's, Blizzacks, or Dunlops he's had in the past.

We get plenty of snow, so I'll report back after some time on them.

I wanted the new Conti AT that has such great reviews but have had WAY better luck out here in the sticks and up at the cabin with XL tires. So, I'm seriously considering that Yokohama G015 now too . . . if ours ever gets here??

It's on the line being built right now!

I think a city slicker like myself would do better with more road oriented tires... that said I’ve decided on a set of 255/55/20 Pirelli Scropions Ice and Snow... hopefully will serve me well this winter.

I have a set of Nokkia R3 SUV's, they are like driving on tar in the snow an ice.
I live in the northeast, and have already dealt with some significant snow int he mountains without issues.
Great tires, I also have them on my other vehicles.

Just mounted a set of the Nokkian R3 SUV's on a set of Range Rover wheels. Trying to get back in so they can put the wheels on my D5.
