Found out yesterday the specs of the L663 windshield
thickness 4,96 mm , weight 12 kg. Very thin.
Windshields used to be 7mm thickness, so they did reduce 5 kg weight on the vehicle.

We only can hope on a aftermarket heavy duty windshield in the foreseeing future.

I feel your pain.

I recently purchased a preowned 2021 D90 First Edition with 18K miles. Before committing to purchase, I noticed very similar paint chipping in the same area on the top of both fenders. The selling JLR dealer has committed to paying for the paint repair. My local JRL service manager attributed the paint chipping due to an improper installation of A-pillar trim. I.e. not adjusting the trim upward enough to avoid contact between the lower colored A-pillar trim piece and the fender. Since the windshield was replaced prior to my purchase, the theory is that the replacement window installer improperly adjusted the A-pillar trim. I have not yet gotten an estimate to repair the paint, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it requires a full respray of the both fenders to do it properly.

For some weird reason I can’t seem to be able to read the last comment. Anyone else?

Only saw this now but I had the exact same thing happen at the exact same dealer (Land Rover San Jose). They replaced my windshield last year and scratched the paint under the A-pillars as well. I brought it up to the service adviser and they used touch-up paint to cover it up.

Of all the places to save money, making a less effective & durable windshield? WTF JLR - what are they smoking??? I get it: if you make all the parts smaller, thinner, and lighter, the MPG will go up and the curb weight will go down. I would rather thicker & stronger parts, and if MPG suffers a bit, oh well. The INEOS Grenadier is going to crush the market in places like Africa and Australia, as they don't cheapen the parts figuring that the next dealership is only 4 miles away and you probably have 3 cars anyways, so who cares if the SUV breaks all the time, it's better to cheapen the construction to brag about another MPG efficiency? Ugh. Garmin sports watches use something called "gorilla glass." I don't know if that is suitable for a windshield, but it works well on a watch and the pitch is that it's very strong so it should not crack. If JLR wants to go lighter, they also need to be stronger. Nobody driving for a week on vacation wants lighter and weaker.

I have new toyota sienna with much more streamlined glass profile, it has been chipped 3 times this year with huge craters as first glass layer is destroyed and some cracks as well.

Has anyone with USAA insurance filed a claim for windshield replacement and, if so, did USAA pay the full cost (less deductible) for replacement with OEM for all original land rover bells and whistles (heated, solar attenuated, heads-up display rated)?

Yep. USAA paid to fix two cracks at safelite, and then they paid the full bill from the dealer for replacement heated, solar, and calibration. Also paid for our cracked Subaru windshield and shattered rear window from a nuclear acorn on our A4. USAA does not factor in glass for rates, so no impact on premiums from any of this.

Depends on what state you are in. Some have windshield coverage and some do not. USAA outsources all windshield repairs to Safelite. I did not want a Safelite windshield - so I paid my comprehensive deductible and ordered the Land Rover windshield. I got reimbursed for the install less the deductible.

This explains the differences by State. Either way, you can get a dealer replacement if you just tell them you don’t want safelite.
