I would suggest that EVERYONE who's had this issue in the USA file a complaint with NHTSA.

Here's the link.

This is the third windshield -- now at 27K miles.

I completed the ShatterX application today, in strict adherence to the the mfg. instructions. Will it help? Hard to expect a positive confirmation, but we shall see.

Enjoy !!
Ok, I just applied my second treatment of ShatterX to the front windshield of my 2020 110. There was no cracking within the last six months, since the first application. Per my plan, I am applying a new treatment every 6 months (the mfg. says it can go as long as 1 year between treatments).

Is my use of ShatterX the reason I am NOT yet into windshield number 4? I have absolutely no idea; but, I am very hesitant to believe so. I will say that the liquid smells awful volatile and chemical filled going on.

That all said, I will stick with the plan until I suffer from another crack in the windshield.

Enjoy !!

It also has a 99% UV barrier so it will protect from sun damage.
Anyone else PPF their windshield? If so, how has it worked in preventing the inevitable crack?

I applied ShatterX on mine about 10 months ago and knock on wood....I've only had one small chip after 6k miles. I'm going to apply another coat of ShatterX or consider the PPF route, but would like to know if the PPF actually helps. I worry about windshield wiper chatter and streaking with the PPF.

Feedback appreciated.

I have not tried the ppf on my windshield. So far, I am on my third windshield replacement. I also applied shatterX multiple times but in my experience, shatter X did not prevent the windshields from cracking. I even applied shatter X when I bought my second Defender and within 100 miles, it cracked. My dealer said that the windshields on the Defenders are very light when compared to the ones on Range Rovers. I have owned multiple LR vehicles since 1982 and never experienced cracked windshields like I did on the Defender.

Good suggestion MattF , however I would not hold my breath for NHTSA to do anything. They are as useless as ever. And ....no, JLR will NEVER acknowledge this issue even if they loose customers.
What I would be interested to find out is how are the non OEM windshield replacements. On other forums, the posters claim that the aftermarkets are better. Could not find what brand is it. Does any one here have any first hand experience with aftermarket ? ( apparently installed by SafeLite)

Second that about the NHTSA. I am not aware of any available aftermarket windshields for the Defenders. To the best of my knowledge and according to my dealer, the replacement windshields for the Defenders are VIN specific to each Defender based on the options ie heated windshield, HUD display, and solar attenuating options.

Still own the Polar Silver 993? Pics? Is it over black or Metropol Blue?

Sorry for being off topic…

Yep, still have my ‘96 993 C2. It’s Polar Silver over Black. Some pics below….including one with the Defender, so not completely off topic! 😉

Hate for this to be my first post here, but feel this maybe helpful to others. I just had the windshield replaced by Land Rover Steven’s creek in San Jose, and when I washed the car a week later noticed this paint damage. I’m pretty upset about this and will call the dealer tomorrow am. If you are getting your windshield replaced make sure you check the paint thoroughly where the a pillars and front fenders meet. Clearance between these parts is suprisingly tight. Anyone else experience this issue?

Making me wonder if I should replace this thing with the new Bronco we ordered first night it was available.
