Cracked Windshield
Funny, driving to work yesterday I heard a little "click", looked down, and a new star in the center bottom of the windshield.
Obviously caused by debris/rock, but sounded like nothing and BAM, star.
Glad I hadn't replaced it yet...this is going to add up $500 at a time!

Ended up applying ShatterX on my Defender prior to a ~600-mile road trip on debris ladened Texas highways. I do always try to steer clear of 18 wheelers...especially ones transporting rocks (a common site in Texas), but sometimes you get stuck behind them and just hope for the best. This happened twice during the trip, where I was sandwiched between big rigs carrying rocks. I can hear stuff hitting the windshield, cringing every time it happened.
Got home and inspected the windshield and couldn't see any nicks or chips.

My 2022 110 just cracked like the other photo right where the camera would be (I don't have camera) but was not there one minute and washed my car by hand....went to dry off and viola, 18" cracks spidering down from the top of windshield under rubber seal and 3 separate cracks. Absolutely no chips (ran needle in crack) and just popped while washing and I know it was warm here at 82 degrees and garden hose went from piping hot to cold once water flushed through......
As far as windshield coverage, big mistake for some states or some insurance companies. I made 2 claims in 2017 for chip repair and 1 replacement a few months after that, and 1 year later when I found insurance much cheaper with Progressive, they came back and said I was uncoverable due to 3 comprehensive reports on national reporting agency....I was paying extra for the windshield coverage only to be screwed for 3 years of having to be stuck with the same company that made the claim and even assured me 100% it would not be reported prior to me calling safelite for the repair.
In my opinion, even with zero deductable, it might be smarter to pay out of pocket if you have had any real claims.

I have been pushing out the installation of my third windshield until the Shatter X goop arrived. I have it now (its not even a bottle -- just a cleaning wipe and an application wipe! Really, this helps?) and an appointment in 10 days for the new windshield. I will report out how goes the application and the subsequent glass life.
Enjoy !!!
Enjoy !!!
Safelite seems to be running a bit of an insurance / customer profit maximization MBA fleecing process, as follows:
1.) Safelite in a U.S. NE big city quoted and were fully planning to charge a 30%+ ($600) premium to "calibrate" my new glass install. I was planning to discuss with them and have that charge removed. I had experienced one install already at a small town, local dealer and they knew and confirmed what two JLR dealers told me, which is that calibration is not necessary (as long as you do not change the camera).
2). Safelite found the correct glass and finally have it in stock. Their new process involved up front downloading the fault codes from the vehicle. This they did and called me to inform me that "corporate" has told them that if any fault codes exist they will NOT install the new glass.
3.) I went to Safelite and I looked at the codes -- dozens and dozens of them -- all different. I then took the Defender over to the LR local dealer and they downloaded the codes and told me that "everything is normal". The new networked computer structures in our vehicle apparently have an active memory, likely so they can be viewed by those from afar who mess with our new software downloads and talk with our vehicles (?). Anyway, per the JLR dealer, "the only codes that matter are the ones which show up on our dashboards". I have had none of those.
4.) I phoned Safelite, told them the status. They called "corporate" which continued to refuse to install the glass. I gracefully bowed out at that point and wished them luck with the glass they had -- they said no problem, they would return it to the warehouse.
5.) I called another local dealer, one recommended by JLR, and received a quote for $500 less. They found the glass, so now I have an appointment in two weeks to install it.
So life goes ....... Enjoy !

Wow! We need a "Great Dealer List" since they are like finding four leafed clovers. @2022def110 - that would get a nomination in my book seeing all the problems everyone else has been getting. Congrats there!
