Another casualty here, 22' Defender X took the dump last week with the same diagnosis. And no ETA. What in the hell? I've also had no major issues until this, almost 40k miles. Now I'm looking to trade it in for another brand when it's finally fixed. Three things have really made this a deal breaker for me:
- Part is out of stock with no ETA
- Service center cannot provide a loaner.
- It's a critical failure, and this made me lose my trust in the defender when I'm in faraway places and terrain with no signal.

Sorry to see another one bite the dust @AgentMir . I know how you feel about the loss of trust. I'm trying to tell myself that the first DC converter lasted almost 100,000 km, so the replacement should survive at least until I sell the truck. And I'm telling myself there's lots of ways that ANY truck could suffer a critical failure and leave you stranded. But... I'm pretty sure I'll always be dreading seeing that charging system error message show up again when I'm far from home.

However, a little bit of good news arrived for me today. It appears my complaint to JLR Canada was productive and the service advisor just called to tell me that they will cover 80% of my repair costs! They called it "warranty good will". I encourage everyone to raise this issue with the corporate office so that they feel some real heat. We need a full recall with a real resolution. Whether that's a redesigned, more durable DC converter or even just start with software changes to reduce the load on that component. Give us something to show you're taking this seriously.

Do you guys know where I can purchase an aftermarket one? I'm trading my Defender in and don't really care about the part's warranty. I've heard from other US owners saying they had to wait 2 to 3 months for this part and that is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. The no loaner available situation was the nail in the coffin for me and Land Rover.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

I found several converters available just by googling the P/N 433123464

I received a very unexpected call this morning from my service advisor who let me know that my 110 was repaired and ready for pickup! I couldn't believe it. They figured out that they had just received a new dc converter for a trade-in vehicle out in the back lot, so they redirected it to me and suddenly I'm back on the road, 4 days later! I feel pretty lucky.

I'm still adamant that this converter issue deserves a full recall and real resolution. But I have to give my dealership credit that they had me back on the road in record time and very little cost.

You car was only in the shop for 4 days waiting for the part? That's crazy. Congrats on getting her back!

The chance of a full recall is pretty slim unless the failure of the part results in sudden loss of powertrain and braking and therefore causing a hazard that may result in injury or death.

Its why the new Toyota non-hybrid engines are being recalled but the hybrid ones, despite being the exact same engine and suffering the same exact failures - are not being recalled since the hybrid drive allows the vehicle to still retain power for propulsion and braking.

IMO everyone impacted in USA should report it directly to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The more visibility the better...JLR will be forced to deal with it appropriately if regulators are involved.

In addition to NHTSA report - since “shutting down without warning” can be a safety issue - might want to fill this out. There’s a law firm on it, not just for L663 but all LR’s.

I mean, they’re just in it to make money I’m sure, but -- this can help ratchet up the pressure on JLR.

I would personally like to disable my PTC as I can see how having a 600W, 12V heater light up every time I start the truck is stressful to the fragile DC converter. The PTC probably runs on startup 6 or 7 months of the year where I live. I can survive for a couple of minutes while the coolant heats up, just like every other vehicle I've owned for 30 years. I've looked quickly to see if there is a fuse (should be 50A to 60A at least) that is labeled PTC heater or similar, but nothing pops out. My next step was going to ask PowerfulUK if they have found a way to disable it with a fuse or the GapID tool.
Update: PowerfulUK informed me that it is possible to disable the PTC heater using a GapID tool. Their initial instructions weren't very detailed, but what I found using the tool today is that you can search for "EUCD-039 Ptc Heater (Supplementary Air Heater)" and change the setting from "with PTC heater" to "without PTC heater". This is what I've done and hopefully that will shut it off permanently.

If anyone has other learnings or suggestions, please add.

This is the first thing that has really made me concerned about long-term ownership, but I still can't find any other vehicle I'd swap it for. Right now it's a little disappointing Lincoln isn't planning their Bronco-based luxury SUV until 2029.
