O’Rielys Auto took the old oil directly from the vacuum pump cylinder.

Latest oil sample. Changed it about 1000 miles ago.

Blackstone Labs Oil Report
  • P400
  • 44,000miles on the odometer.
  • This was the fourth oil change. 15,000 miles, 25,000 miles, 35,000 miles 44,000 miles
  • The oil sample is 9,000 miles old.
  • Reduced Iron and less silicon
  • All seems in order

Oil is cheap, or relatively so compared with the cost of a Defender. I changed at 860 miles and again at 5000 miles. I bought the Defender andI will change every 5k. My dealer will perform the service for 230.00. Well worth it.

How exactly do you folks take the sample when vacuuming the oil? Blackstone instructions say "take a sample from the middle", do you stop and take it from the cylinder, or just at the end of it since it is pretty much mixed up?

It’s easier than ever to take a homogeneous representative sample.

suck out the oil
shake the collection vessel
pump out a sample
