For those choosing the color - don't fall into this trap: the Carpathian Grey color you get on the Carpathian Edition looks very different from the Carpathian Grey color you get on other trims. According to explanations I heard, the Carpathian Edition paint is also covered by a film (though I don't remember seeing references to that), but that film (as I can attest after seeing it) looks different from the PPF you get on other trims - those look more dull in comparison with Carpathian Edition which looks more sparkly.
When I test drove my V8 CE at the dealership, there were other Carpathian Grey models around that weren't wrapped. To my eye, the Matte Film over the Carpathian paint is basically the same color. In the picture below you can see the door handles and door handle cups are not wrapped and they are the same color as the matte finish. The film is a matte finish and doesn't look shiny by any means, however I do know what you mean about a dull sparkle that is visible when you look up close. My original order was for a D110X and I ended up canceling the order and purchase the V8 CE after test driving the V8. For me it wasn't so much about the matte finish as it was getting the V8 and the full Windsor Tan interior. If I would've ordered the V8, I would've gone with Carpathian Grey with extended black pack and Windsor Tan interior. When I test drove the V8 it was July 2024 and they weren't taking orders for 2024 anymore and I didn't want the Caraway interior, I really wanted Windsor Tan so ordering a 2025 was a not an option. 1st world problems I suppose.
I must admit I am a little confused by what you mean when you wrote "don't fall into this trap". I've never owned a vehicle with factory matte paint finish and from what I hear they are very hard to maintain, so for me a matte wrap would be preferred vs matte paint.

Let me phrase it like this: if you look at the Carpathian Edition, like the way the color looks on it, and because of that order your vehicle of any other edition in Carpathian Grey the color, then you might be disappointed by how different it looks when it arrives.
Nothing wrong with Carpathian Grey the color, btw. It's just the difference.

Sorry, not following and want to learn. I got CG on a x-dynamic and it looked like any other version with CG on it. What are you saying is the difference?
Yeah, Carpathian Grey is the same shade and paint code for all JLR products. The color does shift in the light, but they're all identical. The CE isn't any different to any other Carpathian Grey Defender.
I do love the way it adopts the tone of its surroundings. Beautiful blue sky, deep green forest, dark stormy clouds all bring something different out of it.

Just like the original post describes it, more sparkly, yet didn't look like it was PPF. Think acrylic shards vs. Swarovski crystals.

Sure didn't look like that to me I admit that being at that particular fancy place I could've seen something ultra rare and super duper custom, but when I asked this question to the dealer later, he confirmed what I wrote in the original post - they are different, he said. I can't present any more convincing arguments, so let's bury it Before that, though, I do agree that the color code is 100% the same, it's the extra treatment that made the difference.

Totally different color, but I witnessed the same with my JKU Recon Gobi. It was a chameleon, looking like it belonged anywhere I managed to get it to. Not the least consideration for me was that CG will also behave that way when buried under a thin layer of moon dust
