Default Domestic Plug Amp Rating

Anyone know the amp rating for the optional outlet in the rear cargo area? I'm looking at getting a Viair compressor and swapping out the battery clamps for a standard socket...to avoid the hassle of opening up the hood or the battery compartment.

Thanks.

Someone on another forum quoted 180W. No idea where they got that from.

Ah darn, if that's indeed the case, then running a mid level compressor isn't going to work. That outlet can only handle a 15A draw and the compressor I have my eyes on draws 28A maks (eks key not working )

I don't understand what you are trying to do. You basically want to power a 12V DC compressor by plugging it into a 120V AC outlet? That's not gonna work, regardless of amperage or what you replace the battery clamps with. I am no electrician, but DC and AC currents don't mix and something is bound to fry without a converter / inverter.

Yeah its AC to DC. There's a fair amount to deal with, but the biggest deciding factor in the Amperage allowance at that plug and all the cabling behind it.

I'm looking for the convenience of connecting a decent compressor into the outlet without have to hardwire.

It's your call, but it takes maybe 30 seconds to pop the hood open and connect the alligator clamps of a good 12V compressor (I have a Viair 400P, it's great) to the + and - remote battery terminals under there. It's even easier on the Defender than my previous Land Rovers, where in addition to lifting the hood you also needed to remove a plastic battery cover to get to those terminals.
