Default How to replace an amp in my 1999 LR Discovery 2

My amp under the drivers seat has blown and I want to replace it myself but have no idea where to start. I want to bypass it with an after market amp. Are there any suggestions on how to accomplish this task? I had a "stereo repair guy" who said it would cost me $$$$$$ and he is not sure it can be done. Please help!!!

Of course it can be done. Download the RAVE, look in the electrical section, it will tell you which wires are the inputs (from head unit) and outputs (to the speakers) to the factory amp. Match those up with the aftermarket amp and you're in business.

It is pretty difficult. I'm not an expert, but from what I understand if you add an amp then you get into all sorts of issues with crossovers and stuff. I would just get another OEM factory amp on ebay.

Default Thanks.

I have found a factory amp and I will replace it my self. All I have to do it just unplug the bad one and plug up the other, correct? Do I have to disconnect the battery as well?

Not necessarily. Unless you plan on upgrading to some tricked out window-rattling system, the only thing that would really need crossovers are the subs in the rear, and they have their own amp anyway. But if you find a factory one on ebay, that will be your easiest option of course.

I have a factory 1998 D1 amp, no idea if it's compatible with a D2. It worked when I pulled it out about 6 months ago.
