Default Door button unlock unreliable?

Fresh new MY25.5, an attempt to unlock the vehicle by pressing the button sometimes (10% or so) doesn't open it. Lights on the dashboard start blinking, something under the hood starts clicking (I think in groups of three clicks), obviously some black magic is happening, but alas, it stays locked. Sometimes, rarely, it is possible to coerce it to unlock by pulling the handle or pressing the button again - but I usually have to resort to getting the key out of the pocket and pressing the button.

Pivi is at the latest available version.

What gives? Anyone else encountered this problem?

[cue the ghost of Lucas appearing behind my back]

Totally normal, we experience the same thing on both our Defenders. I recall someone posting that if you press the key fob lock button twice when locking, it disables the door handle buttons.

There is a TSB on this. The TSB# is JLRTB02076NAS2. They move the RF receiver from above the cargo area to above the driver's seat and install a new wiring harness overlay. After I had this TSB performed, I haven't had any issues with my keyless entry other than a few times when my key has been in the same pocket as my phone and wallet, which sometimes interferes with the signal. I've linked my thread on this TSB below.

I've also included the official TSB from JLR:

Having anyone touch my equipment... I wanted to say scares me sleepless, but then thought better and would just say that it annoys me to no limits in anticipation of inevitable damage done (sometimes hidden for years).

Last time the dealer performed an innocent "injector recall" I had to replace the spark plugs, ignition coils, and MAP sensors to negate whatever they did to the vehicle (it started throwing codes - manufacturer specific ones at that, undecipherable by a regular OBD2 reader, going into limp mode, and sometimes shaking violently). And that was just the *last* time...

But it's nice to know there's a TSB for this, thank you. I guess I'll just live with it until I *really* have to go to them.

Pressing the key fob lock button twice does not, according to the manual, disable the door lock buttons. There are two stages of locking: SINGLE LOCKING and DOUBLE LOCKING. The differences are explained below. All of this is contained in the manual.

I wouldn’t worry about them breaking anything. If you look at the pdf it shows the entire process to fix the problem. Drop the headliner, remove the RF receiver and bracket, move it to the front and install & secure the harness overlay. It’s been six months since I had that TSB performed and no issues whatsoever. No intermittent keyless entry, no squeaks or rattles or damage to the headliner etc. it’s a pretty simple procedure, and dealer techs are performing this all the time.

Thanks for posting this. I have a 2025 that 30% of the time doesn't unlock with the door button, the car is going in soon to have a trailer hitch installed I will ask service if this applies to my vehicle.

This is handy to know, thank you. Will ask the tech to add it to my next oil change.
