Default Fumoto drain plug for P400

If you notice the picture on the packaging, the fitting is white and made of plastic. When I received my valve from Fumoto inside the package was a note from the company explaining that the fittings were previously made of plastic, but in response to customer feedback and technical changes, they decided to upgrade the quality of their product and changed over to brass fittings. It has a snap ring which connects to the nipple on the valve with a solid, reassuring ‘click’. Props to Fumoto for the improvement.

I havent been under the defender (2024 110 X-Dynamic SE) yet so im not sure if the drain plug faces straight down or is at an angle (or parallel to the ground. Does anyone have a photo of the underside of a P400? Not sure if i should go with the F106SX or the F106S

I went with the F106SX. The pics show the orientation. There are detailed pics earlier in this thread that will answer all those concerns.

Actually based on the orientation of the plug, I think you went with the F106S. The F106SX would be pointing down since the threads are perpendicular to the nipple. Thanks for the picture though this is a huge help.

You’re right, the packaging reflects the F106S, I slipped up when I called it the F106SX.

Bummer. I thought I was going to get the brass fittings on the hose kit but they came with the plastic ones.

I wouldn't worry about that at all. I've had a plastic tube for five years, and it worked perfectly. Very satisfying haptic feedback when you snap it on and off

Is it possible for an installed F106SX to come in contact with the skid plate?

I highly doubt it, there is ample clearance there from the skid plate. You can slide under there yourself and check the gap between the skid plate and the drain plug. That’s another benefit of the Defenders clearance, you don’t necessarily have to jack it up to get under there for minor tasks. I chose the F106S because it seems simpler in design. The F106SX has the threaded part that goes into the drain plug port pass through the body of the valve, adding one more part to the mix. I liked that the F106S is a one piece body, going directly into the threaded drain port. They are so well machined that I doubt there is any failure rate, and reviews of the Fumoto have no mentions of leakage using the F106SX, but I chose it for its simplicity and less joining of parts. I’m sure you’ll do well with either choice.

As the SX can rotate 360 degrees, you could mount it horizontally so that if you do get into a sticky situation offroad and damage your skid plate, it would hit the oil pan first. Pretty unlikely as the front diff is also right there. It would make it a little trickier to use, but would work.
