Default Hole in the back of the rear diff?

I was just looking at the back of my truck and I noticed the hole with two bolt holes on in my differential. The metal around it is shiny, anyone know what it is for?

It is used in the machining of the differential casting on CNC centre and then in the assembly of the rear axle on the bench before assembly into the car on the production line.

This is used as a mounting point for a harmonic/vibration dampener on certain models.

A harmonic damper for the diff? Interesting. So what dictates if it gets that or not?

My guess would be engineering and design. The same differential housing casting is used on multiple different Land Rover models. I believe the range Rover has the damper mounted on it
