The OE Pirelli Scorpion Zeros on our ‘23 130 needing replacing at 25k. They’ve been great from a smooth ride perspective. Considered something different because: 1) New ones were coming in at almost $400 a piece; 2) We tow a heavy boat so something that might be a better towing tire/have stronger sidewalls; and 3) the Pirelli’s look more passenger tire on our mall crawler, so something more truck-like might look appropriate (without going all in on a trail tire, which we would never need).
So…landed on the Michelin Defender LTX M&S 2. (OE size 255/60 R20). You do go “down” from 113V to 113H (still XL load rating), but I won’t be going over 130mph, so I’m good. LOL. Saved $80 per tire ($320) over the Pirelli’s. The Defender LTXs are more of a pickup truck or Chevy Tahoe type tire, do have a stiffer sidewall, and a 70,000 mile warranty (as opposed to the 45k on the Pirelli’s…should last longer; also has deeper tread lugs). My seat-of-the-pants driving Impression: continued smooth ride (took it on an 8 hour round trip on the interstate). The more rigid sidewalls reduce the small side-to-side leaning that you get when making small steering corrections on the road with the 130, but, they also transmit slightly more subtle road imperfections than the softer Pirelli’s soaked up. It’s subtle…most wouldn’t notice. So…happy with the purchase, and should be a good, long-term ride.
