Keeping the Defender for 9 months *contract?*
Good Morning,
I purchased our Defender 110 In November 22. During that time, the JLR Dealer made me sign a contract stating that I will not export the vehicle or trade it within 9 months of ownership?
Is this a common practice across the board with JLR Dealer's?
Reason for the post Is I am considering selling/trading the vehicle.
Appreciate any input, thanks in advance.

I purchased my 23.5 D110 without contract and no mention of sales limitations. You signed the contract and it sounds like you are stuck with your decision for 9 months. Talk to you legal counsel for correct advise. Legal advise advise from a web forum is rarely correct and complete.
Yes you can trade it back to the dealer. I am on defender no 3 and 4 in 12 months. Many others here have likely signed the same and do not know it.
Not to hijack the thread but I can’t help to notice, many defender owners are swapping them like underwear! lol ….. My question, does the new Defender really hold its money that well? That U can do this. I am In the process of purchasing one myself.
Because of supply problems, people were buying Defenders then selling them
on for a profit, LR eventually added the contract to stop "flipping" because it was actually increasing waiting lists.
Now that the waiting list is down to maybe six months, there's less profit to be made, unless it's the Commercial version because the waiting list is still over 12 months on these.

From what l was told, it's the DEALER who gets fined if a customer sells the vehicle on.
l am not sure if the contract is legally enforceable, l've not heard of anyone getting into trouble for selling their Defender early.
Also the dealer now gets fined £1,000 if they produce "ghost" orders
That is, an order with no physical customer so the dealer can then then sell it over retail.
l was told that if l cancelled my order they would get fined £1,000 and l would be "unlikely" to get my £1,000 deposit back.
This is in the U.K. lt may be different in other markets.

How will they even know if you sell it?
That contract isn't worth anything. It's routine paperwork during a car sale. If you need to sell it or want to sell it, just sell it.
I probably wouldn't sell it to the Middle East and post about it on Instagram tagging the original dealer -- which would be inciting a response -- But, otherwise a standard trade in or private party transaction in the USA should be fine, this is normal with used vehicles. They can't block that if they don't have any financial or legal interest in the vehicle.
BTW lots of high dollar cases around this with Ferraris etc. Ferrari puts you on a 'black list'. There's no "legal case" applicable here. All JLR could do is refuse to sell you a new JLR product in the future. Seeing as they can't even 2 year old surface service records from a nearby dealership on their computers at my local dealership, I highly doubt they have a rigorous way of tracking this customer list data across dealerships at least in the US business.

I only have my V8 because a guy got caught selling Range Rovers X3 with 23 miles on them. He lost his V8 allocation and I was told JLR was going after him, whatever that means. End of the day I do not really care one way or the other and just happy to have a V8.
I have been flipping them back to the dealer getting MSRP back each time.
