I agree, my experience is that I can unlock the truck more often by pressing the passenger-side (right) rear handle button. Front passenger door is just as unreliable as the driver door.

So moving the receiver doesn't make sense. I can lock the truck reliably by pressing the button.

I also have the occasional "put key next to your left knee" message when trying to start the truck.

This really isn't right. I'm coming from a couple of Audi's that never had an issue.

Default Keyless entry

The 2020 , 2021 Land Rover Defenders that do not work via by pushing the door button to open it. Need to have a Module relocated in the back of vehicle and then the problem goes away.

Default Still doesn’t make sense to move the module?

can you provide more details regarding this? Have you had this done? It still doesn’t make sense that moving the module would solve the problem because the driver door will lock every time (wherever the module is currently located), but it won’t unlock....that just doesn’t seem to indicate that the problem is a result of where the module is located...because the vehicle will lock every time with the drivers door...it just won’t reliably unlock.

I don't have a Defender (yet) so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but...

The doors and the engine start both work the same way, right? They need to detect the key fob in your pocket. I see from the above the doors seem unreliable and some people have suggested maybe the fob was in the same pocket as your cell. But if the engine start works, then the issue isn't that the fob is the same pocket as your cell, right?

Default Defender 2020 Keyless Entry

New to the forum. Joined because I am at my wits end prompting me to list my vehicle for sale. I have had my 2020 Defender 110 for 10 months. Dream vehicle. With that said, from day one I have struggled with the notion that LR could manufacture a vehicle with an issue as simple as keyless entry. I would never have expected that the engineering of this would be problematic since it is 2020 (now 2021) and this technology has been around for at least 15 years (my 2006 BMW 330i never had an issue). I can live with a lot of the nuances that the Defender has, but honestly, it is this one that is a constant frustration - literally every time I get into the vehicle. Other letdowns which rattle me include the noise from the roof rack (don't get it if you like to ride with the panoramic sunroof open) and the limited size to the cargo space (it would be great to put luggage in the back without having to put the seats down - a Tesla X should NOT have more cargo room than a Defender 110 - but does!). I enjoy the road - and driving - I find it soothing. Driving my Defender has been anything but soothing. I read threads alluding to LR perhaps addressing the issue of the keyless entry - are there any updates on that matter?

Curious on this subject, why did they remove the proximity sensor? I find it a bit of a chore to tap the unlock button. I know that sounds stupid, but going from RRS 2013 which had the proximity sensor it seems unnecessary to have to search out my key fob, especially if I’m carrying things.

LR relocated the “detector” to the left side of the Defender. I believe it was on the right side. It was not removed. It worked for me, the hardest part of the fix was convincing the dealership that something was wrong. It took 3 trips to the dealership…..Joe

Will check with my dealer concerning moving the module to the back. My unlock experience is generally ok but occasionally I do run into problems at the driver door and at the tailgate. If there is a way to move the module and improve the function a bit that would be great. Odd thing is that the key fob is never an issue and as others have said locking via proximity sensor is also never an issue. Maybe for security purposes they have turned the sensitivity down for unlock functions to prevent intercept of signal-don’t know-thought I read something about that.

There is a JLR technical bulletin on this issue.

my dealer said they had to order parts per the bulletin. that was months ago. still pretty much every time i drive the vehicle i have issues on unlocking and the start button. often have to take key out of pocket and hold it near the door or in the air to get either function to perform. super annoying to spend 100k on a truck that can't open, start, or stay running reliably.
