Lot of work to replace or service the rear speakers on the 90.

Klipschorns are definitely not for a college budget.
Those are Klipsch Forte speakers

i thought a 5k budget was more than enough to build out the whole system. i was very wrong or maybe atleast for the higher end components. ended up more doubling the budget for what my installer still calls entry level. i had to call it at some point. almost endless

Defender goes in late July for a two week build

Here are the final components

-Morel Elate Carbon 3 way run active
the mid range might or might not fit. the oem midrange location is small and blocked majority by the size of the grill. i might end up swapping with a audiofrog gb25. smaller but will fit no issues and suppose to sound great
- Morel Virtus Nano Integra 2 way/ coaxial in the rear doors- just for rear fill. rear doors have a rear mounting plate in the doors which prevents larger speakers
- 2 Arc Audio 1100.5 amps. 8x150 watts and about 1000 watts to the subs
-2 arc audio 10 inch A series shallow mount subs
- Mosconi dsp

custom amp rack and sub box in false floor. it will be able to be displayed but covered most of the time

i will have a secondary high res bluetooth source which car play will display on my screen. just can’t control volume. will be controlled by JBL click which is a bluetooth volume control

for when the family is in the car, i will be using the oem head unit which all speakers including those that were not replaced will be active.

no speakers will be deactivated, separate source will have the oem speakers tuned very low

its been a long journey of research and lots of youtube videos.

i had to find an installer that had worked on a defender and was able to interface seamlessly. luckily i found one of the best in the nation in my neck of the woods

if anyone has questions about upgrading ask away. i know too much now

QUOTE=SeriousVicarious;831588]The meridian speaker system in my RRS is the worst feature of the entire car. The low end and high end are somewhat tolerable but the mid range (vocals) is almost entirely muted when listening to Tool and other bands in the genre. I’m trading in for a preordered defender which should be arriving any week now and the meridian system coming in that car has been the biggest gripe for me. This thread has given me some hope for improvement though once I take delivery!

jesus though, between the speaker upgrade and all the off roading mods I want to do to this car. I feel like this $80k car is going to hit $100k quick! 😅

And they have found it's best to just disconnect the midrange speakers in the far back.

Still can't decide if I want to spend that much or just change out the door woofers and tweeters myself using Focal speakers for about $2K. Just had my installer replace all the speakers in our new X5 with Focal speakers. Huge difference in sound quality. (B&W system was unavailable when we ordered the X5)
@PaulR Did you decide to just do the Focal speaker upgrade, or did you go all in like Ehloo? If you do the Focals', aren't you still limited by the midrange, as our Defenders have a 3-way system up front? Also, I'm curios to hear just the sound change from adding sound deadener and foam prior to switching out the factory speakers...

Like it was said before, anything can be done for the right amount of $$$$. For me though, it is only one $ that I can afford... lol

Focal and Blam make 2 ohm speakers and you can still go with a 3 way system upfront and not go overboard like me.

if you are replacing just speakers i highly recommend considering adding a sub.

although the meridian surround states there is a sub it actually doesn’t do much. most of the bass is coming from the 6.5 in the doors and impressive they play down to 20 hz. that’s really low for a 6.5 but also same reason why they blow so easy. they can’t handle the power of the oem amp and frequency range

i recommend using the all in one audison 10 inch listed below. if you don’t have a third row the sub can be mounted under the rear cargo area. not going to be earth shattering bass but heard great reviews and was considering it

if you are limited on $ go with the focal 2 ohm 3 ways in the front, maybe change the rears but most likely not needed, sound deaden the car and sub below.

you could prob get it all done for 3-5k and be more than happy with the settup.

Naw, Allegedly was right, they're KG4s. The Fortes have a single big woofer rather than the two smaller ones and rear-firing passive radiator that my KG4s have.

Which models of the 3-way Focal or Blam components do you recommend considering the range that the front 6.5 speakers are being asked to play?

Starting with the 6.5 Focals in front along with front tweeters. Will see how that sounds before doing the rears. Probably won't get to the project until after labor day weekend college move-in trips.

Following this thread as I'm looking at upgrading my door door speakers. More than likely I will be adding some small subs in the rear rear doors that will need further amplification. This will require getting speaker signals from the systems audio amp (located behind the panel where a factory air pump would be located). I did some searching through the factory tech manual and found the wiring diagrams for the factory amp/speakers and though I would drop them here for anyone looking for this information. Note: This is for the premium Meridian system with surround.

if you have a 110 you are very limited in space in the factory 6.5 location. it actually prevents you from lots of speaker options. there is a cross beam support right behind the speaker hole. I ended using a Morel Virtus Nano which is a super shallow speaker

You should be summoning the signal from the factory dsp not amp.

but it all depends how big of an upgrade you are looking to do

Is this cross beam in the front doors, rear doors or both?
