Model 2023 - Production and delivery date
Ahh ok.. i got something like that when my build date was announced but it was just the options I spec’ed. wondering when in the process I’ll see the “everything” list. My last date to change stuff is 5/20.
Our 2021 P300 110 (Pangea, White roof, steelies - no sun roof because we planned on expedition rack) has 40k miles on it, so we ordered a replacement (Tasmine, black roof, sunroof, steelies)
Last change date 5/3
Build date 6/16
Delivery 8/4
Test drove a new Range Rover Sport before we ordered, had been considering going with one after seeing the fantastic launch video, but the white one we tested looked horrible in person AND they couldn't give us an estimated build/delivery date if we wanted it in Portifino Blue. Besides, the interior was too posh. We haul stuff in our defencer, it gets tons of sand and surf wax, and other stuff in the enterior, so we went with another defender. thought about getting a P400, but the P300 has been excellent, not a single problem and we never tow anything, so... P300.
Our 21 has the Resist seats and the cold climate package, but in the 23 model year you can't spec Resist and cold climate so we have the leather. Oh, well.
Pretty happy with time lines. Our local dealer salesman was giving us the run around, wanted $5k down and wouldn't send the order refund policy for review, so I called another dealership about 70 miles away, go the order in the same day with a $2500 deposit.

Not every dealer gives you that - ask.
Your 21' is without a sunroof, but your 23' will have a sunroof, if I'm reading that correctly. did the lack of it make you want to get it or something else perhaps? I feel like I'm having this existential crisis on whether or not to spec mine with or without one. I plan on putting some kind or rack on top so I get that you would just see horizontal bars up there and the Defender seems so tall anyway and probably just keep it closed most of the time and it costs $1800.. But on the other hand more air flow and more natural light coming in and every vehicle I've ever owned has had a sunroof. I guess, I'm wondering if you had some epiphany.

The 21 is the first car either of us have had with no sunroof/convertible top. We miss it every day. In fact, we thought we were getting a sunroof (and clearsight mirror) on the 21, we flew from NOLA to Raleigh and when they rolled the car out, it had neither. But back then, Defenders were really hard to get, we had been contacting dealerships all over the country to find the green/white/steelie combo, so we could fly back or buy it and drive home.
We've done some camping, over landing, and mild off-roading, but nothing serious enough for us to be concerned with the loss of body stiffness from the sunroof. A lot of people told me that I don't "NEED" a Defender, which is probably true. We just like the way the Defender looks. The 21 came off the lot with: Air Suspension, Off-Road and Advanced Off-Road pack, Cold Climate pack and the tow-hitch receiver, so we ordered those to keep the same features. Also added, recovery hooks, and front undershield on the new one (basically the same set up). We've NEVER towed anything, but I was able to use the tow receiver to help pull a 4runner that was stuck in mud, that's why we decided to have the front and rear recovery points exposed this time.
A lot of people suggest skipping the sunroof if you're going to install a roof rack, but on my last car, I would have the sunroof open even when our surfboards were on top blocking the opening, it's the feel and sound of the air we like. With the 21, we either drop the middle section of the rear seat and slide our surfboards in (the sit on the center armrest thing), or raise the headrests a notch and slide our surfboards over the seats and tie them down so they don't sway. Once we get the sunroof, we probably won't do the overhead thing because it will block the sunroof. So far, no need for a roof rack.
Not really sunroof related, but the other thing we discovered is that the Defender is hella tall in normal drive height. I'm 5' 9" and she's 5' so we'd need a ladder setup to use a roof rack. Coupled with the fact that most of the downtown parking garages in NOLA have a 6' 4" height limit (I nicked the shark fin the first time I drove in one, so have to lower the ride height to get in) the roof rack/cross bars were a non-starter for the new car. Finally, we wanted the fixed side steps but heard that they blocked the wade sensors, so we didn't add them, streets flood a lot in NOLA.

Thanks brydup, for the thoughtful reply and explanation into the sunroof topic. The more I think about it the more I'm tending to lean into the "yes, sunroof" camp. I can imagine the shock when picking up the vehicle and it just not having the things you were expecting. And 2 years later and its still happening. Hopefully, I won't get any surprises day of.. appreciate it thanks
