New Defender OCTA
wow, pricey. seems like their radar is pointed squarely at G Wagons. The other likely target: Lexus LX. IMO, the G and LX are "academic" off roaders - not something you'd take off road, but an SUV you can say "yea, it could do it, but why?" ... Like a full sized RR, these choices are fund to drive and capable for sure, but they are so nice on the outside that scratches and dings make no sense. On the other hand, maybe the Octa will be for doing? Have to see what the configurations allow. (I do recall the V8 dynamic roof rack load rating is zero, so there's that to overcome if you want to do anything with this new Octa).
I also got a call from my dealer - I'm on the list, but also got the invite to the tri-state area launch in Brooklyn next month (May 16-19).
I've heard its going to be priced around the same as the RRS SV - which is between $160-170K. Thats pretty steep but I'll reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh in a months time. The BMW 4.4L twin turbo V8 with 626hp is very tempting, but the mpg will definitely not be.
Goodyear Duratracs will be standard given the LR media shots that have been issued. I like the tire, I have them on my 23.5MY P400X as a winter tire on 5098 20's - cant fault them.

If there's a market, then by all means sell. It's generally not a good look to be a pig, but anyone with enough money to buy one should know exactly what they are getting.
These make a G63 look like a steal.

The difference is that a base G550 is $143k and a G63 is $183k. If you look at a Base 110 it's in the high 50's? The difference between the base Defender at a fully loaded V8 is pretty minimal. Generally the same interior, switch gear and exterior.
So you say it's only going up $40k but it's really going up over $100k from the base, which as I said is crazy.
I've come to the conclusion that the best Land Rover products (along with Porsche) are the configurations with minimal options. If I could do it all over again I'd buy a P300 90.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think the OCTA should cost?
If I could do this all over again I would ignore your comments - your comparisons are laughable. A base Defender is not the same as a base G-Wagen by any metric.
The options on a fully loaded Defender V8 versus a base 110 is easily in the 60K range so I'm not sure what youre trying to suggest - and also how does a 626hp, twin turbo V8 Defender with 6D dynamics make a slower, less capable G550 seem like a steal at $183K? The G550 and G63 is basically the same switch gear and exterior too but if you add up all the options that dont come as standard (like the Defender X or V8), you'll be well north of 200K.
