I got a new oem windshield installed this week, and just noticed that anytime I close my driver or passenger door, my wipers are activated for just 1 round. This is also only when I have my wipers set to “auto/sensor” which I’ve always kept them at, so it’s obviously the new windshield, right? The installers seem to think there is no way just replacing the windshield could do this but my assumption is that the sensor is having issues?

would love anyone’s insight. On a good note the leaky wind sound is gone.

 

My guess, sensor calibration issue.

You might need to take it to a LR dealer to get it checked.

l never use the auto wipers, didn't get on with them.

 

Check in settings if the wipers are in "winter mode". Otherwise, it probably is a calibration issue and I would let the dealer handle it.

 

Thanks guys, the closest dealer is 3 hours away, would ideally prefer the original windshield installers fix it but of course if dealer is best/safest option then that’s the route I’ll take.

I noticed today in a storm that the auto sensing mode wasn’t accurate with the amount of heavy rain I was experiencing through Alabama, super intense and the wipers were acting like it was a drizzle.

not in winter mode, it’s only the passenger wiper that’s elevated

 

When it comes to these trucks, software calibrations and corrections likely couldn't be handled by a windshield tech unless there's some kind of clever button shortcut we might not know about. Most software changes on these require plugging into a very specific type of JLR laptop.

 

Couple questions and comments... Seems ... Definitely related to the windshield install if that was just done and now you're having this issue. Seems very odd.

1) this likely has nothing to do with winter wiper mode... all that does is park the wipers up about 4-6" -- when you turn the car off, and then turn it on and put it in drive and start moving

2) can you be a little more specific that "only the passenger wiper" is affected? that seems odd - they're tied together and wipe together.

I'm on my original windshield but I did have to have my rain sensor replaced. It started "not sensing" rain. And sensing rain when there was no rain and wiping.

IN THEORY to test this:
--Remove the plastic cover top of windshield behind the mirror. Careful. Easy to break the clips. It does pry off though. Don't use a metal implement please -- no screwdrivers etc etc (sorry just making sure!)
-- On right (passenger) side you'll see a small connector going to a round sensor behind that plastic cover. That's the rain sensor. Try unplugging that. If this stops your windshield wiper spazz-ing when the doors open and close... you've found your problem. Rain sensor (calibration or faulty). The rain sensor is attached to the window with a little silicone pad, and I would imagine that if that gets screwed up, the sensor will go wonky.

 

The passenger wiper is the only one resting about 3 inches higher than usual(as shown in the photo), the driver's is fine. I'll take it in tomorrow and they said it just needs to be realigned.
I can't really move the wiper downward either, it is very firm in its alignment.

 

Oh. They just literally bolted the wiper arm in the wrong position. It is incorrectly aligned. They need to fix that. Should be horizontal at rest.

 

This is a simple fix if you wanted to try it yourself too. My dealership replaced the passenger wiper and they had it mounted so at rest, it was sitting on the painted panel at the base of the windshield. I really did not want deal with having to hover over them as some random tech moved it one spline up or down so I just realigned it myself.

There’s a rubber cap over the nut that can just be pull off without any tools. Underneath, I can’t remember.. 15mm ish socket can loosen the nut, then just lift the arm slightly off the spline and place it back down where you’d like it
