^^ Thanks, birddog. I’ll consider a separate thread with what I learned when I get finished.

In the meantime, here’s a couple photos I snapped this morning before the monsoon started.

Wheels look GREAT! I bit the bullet and bought the extended wheel arches. I've pulled off the old ones in anticipation and will be installing this evening. I'll let you know if I like them with the changed tire set. I am minorly anxious about the difference in color. I'll leave it be thru a few weeks & offroading before I decide. But that looks awesome and I'm sure they function much more beautifully as well.

Stock steelies in black, as supplied for the Trek Editions, purchased from LK8 who bought up LR’s oversupply. I got them in October, I think; don’t know if they still have any sets.

The tires are stock size, 255/70-18, but it seems they’re a little taller than the Goodyears that came on it, since they rub a tiny bit at full-lock only in Access Height. I suspect that the deeper tread makes them taller, rather than holding the outside diameter constant and “carving” the tread deeper into the tire, so to speak. At any rate, it’s just slightly possible that they are the same size as the OEM Goodyears and are rubbing because…

I do have spacers, 30mm (1.25”). If I had a P300 with its smaller brake calipers spacers would not be needed, as then I would have the exact wheel that comes with that model. But because the replacement rear calipers that are required to get any 18 to fit on a P400 still rub without spacers on the OEM steelie, I have to run spacers now. I prefer not to and will attempt to grind a little caliper in the back to make the steelies fit without rubbing. If I succeed there, perhaps the new tires won’t rub without the spacers, though I don’t see how that would be the case.

Cheers!

Very helpful. My truck is a P300 so I'm thinking this might just work!

THANK YOU

Matt

I am SO tempted to take a P400 rear caliper to a metalworking buddy so that he can band saw it in half. I'd love to post pics of how much "meat" is there. I suspect almost all of it is a beefy heat sink / cooling fin. Maybe I can GoFundme the effort! Seriously though, I've been watching eBay hoping that PartsLink parts out a Defender that had an accident in one rear leaving the other good<g>. Maybe I should ask them to keep an eye out.

Beautiful Wheels and tyres @NoGaBiker

Thanks for the explanation of your setup.

I do think the spacers will always impact the rub/no rub conundrum.

Placement of the spacers mean the tyre does't simply rotate about a central axis like in an OEM setup but moves on an arc with a 30mm radius from the prior axis point.

This means that when at any steering position the edge of the tyre will be position further forward/rearward depending on direction of the steer.

If you imagine them with 12" spacers it's easier to visualize perhaps.

Moje zkušenost s koly Defender P400. Disky Twin Monotube Project AT 20 v rozměru 9"x20" ET40 + distanční podložka H&R 15mm + pneu BFG AT KM2 265/60 R20.
265/60 R20 - 32,5"
275/55 R20 - 31,9

Porovnání Good Year AT 255/60 R19 s GFG KM2 265/60 R20. Rozdíl není veliký.
