Default Octa - Break-in Oil Change?

Have any of you with Octa’s either done or are planning to do a break-in oil change?

JLR states the first oil change is at 16,000 miles, the latest M5 with the S68 engine + hybrid states 10,000 miles and the 2023 M5 CS, which I think most closely resembles the Octa needed a break-in oil change at 1,200 miles. I am currently at 1,750 miles and thinking of getting it done for peace of mind certainly no later than 2,500 miles. A waste of money or worth it?

Thanks

Andy

I did an oil change at 2,000 miles. No instructions to do so, so peace of mind. To note: the OCTA oil spec is not the as the P400 so make sure you’re on the correct path ( it’s still relatively new for dealers, etc.); and the oil must be drained not pumped. My dealer, who has been very good, did it; first time on an OCTA, and struggled (my observation) getting the underside protections back in place.

Thanks Jim - I did know that the oil was different as I bought a couple of quarts in case the car needed it while running in (it hasn’t so far) but good tip about needing to drain the oil rather than pump.

I had the dealer do an oil change at 1,500 miles. The service advisor thought I was insane but the technician who did the work didn't, he said even if not required it certainly can't hurt.

I'm pushing 7,000 miles on my OCTA now and it's been flawless. My nearest dealer is 2 1/2 hours away, I'll be up that way in a few weeks likely and I may have another oil change done and inspection while I'm in town. You've got a nearly $200,000 vehicle, the cost of additional oil changes is nothing is how I see it.

I agree that cost is not the issue and I have no excuse as my dealer is literally a 5 minute drive away. I will get it done and then again at around 8,000 miles. I know oil change intervals can be much longer on modern cars with synthetic oils and better filtration but I still think LR push it a bit too far.
