Yes it's amazing the traction you get on a lil' ol' 2wd SUV with the winter tyres. Every season I have a quiet sensible chuckle to myself when the conditions get dicey in the mountains and countless trucks and beefy AWD SUV's are skidding about or in the ditch. Not that I wish anyone ill, it's just funny.

I'm in two minds still.
Option 1: Keep 20" ridiculous rims and put winter tires on them for winter. Blizzaks 275/55/20 and get a better tire once the Adventures are worn for a year or two.
Option2: Sell the OEM rims (if I can) after swaping out the rear calipers and getting some Tuffants in 18" and a nice set of BFG kO2's to match. That way I'll probably not need a second set of winter boots and will have a better tire for the trails. I'm not about to do any crazy stuff on rocks but it's nice to have more options in tires for the longterm in 18"

You can get the BFG on the 20" rims (275/55r20) ... if that's the tire you want. Maybe option 1a :-)

Lol Yeah I've thought of that too. I'm so indecisive I wasn't even sure if I'd give it as a third option.

I think I've probably been watching too much Ronnie Dahl videos and I'm just overthinking the sidewall shortcomings. Maybe I should just install a lift and a winch on my Acura MDX and call it a day.

K02’s are great. Forget the ridge Grapplers, they look cool but believe me they have no traction on wet pavement after 10k miles and keep getting louder. Look into the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT’s. Running them on a Ford F-250 now and super quiet, quieter than K02’s, excellent grip on wet pavement and supposedly high mileage we will see. As soon as my 90X arrives I’m installing them 275/60R20 along with the Johnson 1 1/2” lift. They are my fav AT tire now.

Default Defender X Dynamic SE 2022

I just bought mine with 22IN rims 275/45/22 tires. Not happy with the tires, since I want to do some off roading but not too crazy. My question is should i change the tires to 285/45/22 AT tires or go with the new sertup with 20 inch rims and off road tires. My problem is that i will be stuck with 5 x 22 Rims and tires that have no use for me. Not sure if there is a market for them.

Well, unless off-road is just beaches or gentle green lanes, you don’t want to be on 22’s. 20’s are not even ideal, but should be fine for mild off-roading if you’re careful and don’t air down on pointy rocks.

YMMV, but here’s my 2cents. For all my Defender cruising brothers & sisters, 22’s are good for the road performance and stylish. Want to off road more than gravel? The worst set on Defenders and don’t try to source rubber. Sell the wheels. You’ll get buyers, May take a while. The problem is that 20s aren’t a lot better and 19 have horrid choices as few manufacturers build to the size. You have three choices all with issues. It’s up to you to figure which problems you can live with. 18’s are the best, but require caliper swaps or mods. Be serious before this route. Skip 19s if you are buying replacements. 20s will have issues on anything serious but may be decent compromise. 22’s, make sure you carry tire repair items or 2d spare.

LR is so misleading. For a rig thats $100k. they have done horrible job by limiting us to 19, 20 and 22 when knowing there are so few options. I am really disappointed. Also their retailers are so ignorant. I called LR HO, they told me to call the retailer. They have no product champions. Very disappointed. when I bought my rig, they had P300, but the sales rep. didnt want me buy that and pushed me to buy the P400.

When I first entered the market for a 90X found one with 22’s. Sales man said they would swap in 20’s for me. The next day he calls me and says due to the size of rotors and calipers with the 22’s, their Shop Manager said 20’s wouldn’t fit. Fortunately I found another dealer who had a 90X on the way with 20’s so I bought that one. Don’t assume you can easily switch from 22’s to 20’s.
