LR has a reputation, sure, but I don't think they are any less reliable than German brands, for instance.

Both my old LR's had teething problems, but after the first few rounds of repairs, they never gave me any trouble. In fact, the first out-of-warrantee problem (crank-case position sensor) took 20 years to show up! Maintenance was dirt cheap too, because they were so easy to work on.

Same with my R8 - it had a bunch of initial problems, but after that it has been totally reliable. It's much harder to do maintenance on, though. Replacing the battery, for example, was a ridiculous ordeal that required tearing the entire front half of the car apart.

Since the original ask was if anyone knew about tuning options - I’ll throw this out there. I’m looking at maybe giving this a shot. VAP Tuning is popular on the Jag forums for the F-type. I decided to swap my F-type out for my 4 cylinder Defender which I think is great but I don’t tow so there is that.

Anyhow - you may want to check these guys out. I won’t comment on should you or shouldn’t you or if the engine is designed for it. I can only say lots of F-type’s running their tunes and F-types are using basically the same 4 cylinder engine from a factory output level.
