Default P400 NGK vs Bosch plugs

I’m at just over 51k miles on my 2020 X and going to be ordering oil/filter, a few other maintenance items and am going to order plugs too.

Has anyone used the Bosch 8502/VAR6SIP plug or is everyone using the LandRover LR091617/LR178881/NGK SILZKAR8G7Y 93710?

I buy everything I possibly can from FCPEuro and see that they have both. I’ve always gone NGK over Bosch, and am leaning toward NGK as they are the oem but wondering if anyone has seen/heard/experienced anything for or against the Bosch plug?

Seems like the NGK plug is unavailable everywhere unless you get the ones in the landrover box for double. LR box is up to 25-32 each now whereas the NGK box is 11-16 but unavailable everywhere, including the NGK site showing national backorder.

Personally, I would stick with the OEM plugs. Both plugs are good though.

I would change the leads if you are changing the spark plugs

This engine has coil packs. I have a spare coil pack in the storage space of the trunk with my gap tool in case one craps out on a trip.

I went with OEM. They were available for a lot cheaper as a non-LR part. I think I paid 25 a plug or so.

Lesson learned.

Prior poster suggesting changing the leads maybe should look under the hood of their non-existent Defender.

There are no leads. Ignition coils yes. Leads no.

swapping one out is going to be a royal PITA especially if it’s the 6 cylinder and it’s a coil near the bulkhead.

Quite a bit of disassembly needed to get to the plugs.

Got the 6 oem plugs and finally got a chance now that I finished replacing the roof on my house to get at the plugs and an oil change.
Holy hell, snapped the wiper arm puller from Amazon, as well as another 2 arm puller I had. Ordered a different puller, hoping to try again in a few days.
Used penetrating oil, the nuts cracked free easily and it’s a Florida car from new, IDK.

Just got this wiper arm puller delivered from
amazon. Less than a minute after opening the box both arms were off. I struggled with that other tool for over an hour, ended up bending the top piece that you use to turn it and bent the lower arm. This one had no problem and popped them both right off. When I just opened the box was a little disappointed, clearly very used, marks all over it, tool marks, scratches, but it did the job so it’s worth its weight in gold!!

Thank you @GavinC for your write up! I am definitely using that now that I got past step 1 lol.
Of all the jobs I’ve done, and wiper arms I’ve pulled, these were the newest lowest mileage and biggest PITA!!! Lol

Got em done tonight and then did an oil change too.
Took a solid 3 hours.
Having that other wiper arm tool was a blessing. Take the wiper arms off, cowl under the arms, I ended up taking the a pillar trims off too, not sure if that was actually needed or not but was able to get behind them clean them up and get them put back on.
I would definitely recommend taking the plastic trim piece that has the little rubber edge at the very front of the car off, it’s black texture plastic that runs between the headlights and has the openings for the hood catch and latches, so that you don’t inadvertently rip that rubber seal off.

Placing the intercooler into service mode, I would definitely recommend the following, it made it easy to pull it up and lay it back down in place.
-Left side has one 90degree rubber hose from the intercooler to the intake manifold. Don’t loosen the intercooler side, loosen the manifold side.
-Right side has the main intake hose from the turbo and then a smaller hose behind it from the supercharger bypass to the intercooler. Front main intake pipe fiddle with the clip to get it snapped into the release position and break it loose. Loosen the clamp on the rear hose on the intercooler side and unclip the clip on the supercharger bypass, pull that lower part of the hose off the supercharger, then the intercooler will tilt up and out of the main intake hose pretty smoothly and then lay back down and clip back in well.

@Skyfall

Well done. Great tips on the hoses. I'm still having PTSD flashbacks from those short fat ones that you mention.

3 hours. That's bloody impressive. A twenty-twenty match versus my 5 day test.
