Ahh, thanks! I totally thought this was a piece of Land Rover diagnostic equipment available from a middle-priced American clothing store.

Simple to disable, just don't fasten your seatbelt, duh!

Auto Start/Stop can be a real issue in Central/Southern Arizona as once the Engine stops at a red light, the interior temp climbs rapidly, I appreciate its a 1st world problem, but it's stifling and can cause issues for people with lung conditions.
Also - in Phoenix, the driver standard is pretty bad and you need to exploit gaps at intersections and sometimes the engine doesn't fire up fast enough, you can miss your gap and pull into oncoming traffic by accident.

Yes, we can push the button, yes it's a minor thing, but it's taken away the choice.

Really?! How long do lights take to go from red to green in Arizona? I mean, unless it's broken the longest I have seen a light here in Texas is maybe 3 minutes in an unbelievably busy intersection. And even if I do not cross it in 3 minutes, it is enough to move the car and re-start the system.

Running the risk of being scolded here (considering the title of this thread), I absolutely do not see/feel the whole big deal with the stop/start system in the Defenders. It is the smoothest and snappiest one that I have ever experienced and I feel zero inconvenienced by it. The one LR used in the Velar was dreadful. It would shake the entire car every time, but the Defender IMO is as stealth as it gets.

Luck you, I don't own a new defender, and past cars have been dire, and when it's >120f out, with a glass roof, you feel it. Fast. I Had a Hyundai and a Nissan and the gap between lifting off the brake and the engine kicking in was very noticable - approx a whole second

I do have a Range Rover Sport on Sevice Loan and the Stop Start is good, and its only 67f out so I have left it alone, my LR is a Disco Sport, and I have driven it for a single day before the "we owe" have been addressed - I am told I am getting it back today (fingers crossed).

But again, its about choice, Im allowed to turn the volume up beyond healthy levels, and leave it there.... but i cant control the S/S function permanently.

I'm guessing you don't actually own a Defender because *** will not shut the engine off if the desired vs actual temp difference is not within a couple of degrees. If it sits too long at the light and the cabin gets warmer, the engine re-starts. I'm in Florida. Stifling? Lol, not even warm.

I'm also again guessing you don't own a Defender because all you have to do is tap the gas pedal if it's off and you want it to restart before you actually want to move. Brake hold does not disengage if you do it right and then you're ready to push through your frogger situation.

I don't know about other vehicles, but the Stop Start system of the Defender doesn't engage if it's anywhere near that hot, so this is a moot point. The manual says 104 but, from my experience, as soon as outdoor temps approach 80 degrees or so, the engine just idles, it never shuts off. You'll most likely spend all summer driving around in AZ wondering if the system is even working. Same if it's too cold outside, if the engine has.not reached operating temperatures, if the A/C is blasting, if your seat heaters are on... The system only operates within a relatively narrow set of conditions.

Perfect! And he probably thinks climate change is a Chinese hoax. Because they’re sending us their bad air, and taking our good air. (Attributed to a famous almost-politician ).
