The internet is here to help! Often my wife advice is questionable but this could be a good angle to work.

If your dealer doesn't have any allocation left to give you, an unslotted order could end up getting built as a '23 and that would almost certainly involve a substantial price increase, reduced features, and a repeat of the confusion they had when they converted orders from '21 to '22. People lost out on previously standard features like Clearsight and air suspension because the LR website didn't match the ordering system and dealers didn't know they were now add-ons.

I am guessing that JLR made a hasty decision to start increasing the cost of the defender based on the demand being so much higher than they expected. They did this by removing previously standard options on some models, increasing base price etc. I have no insight into how they inform their dealer network, or how each dealer trains its people on changes, but their message is not consistent across the board and they have no accountability for their mistakes.

When my sales rep didnt know the answer to something he tended to just ignore the question. In some cases I have an email chain where, when I was being forced to slot into a my22 order from a my21 order, where he simply does not answer all of the questions.

I moved to the XS model which was marketed as having air suspension standard. Here is a copy of that press release:

This turned out to not be true as I got charged the cost for it. My sales rep made the argument that there is a lot of incorrect reporting on various websites and to only trust JLR about what the models have (at the time I switched my build this was most comprehensive info about the XS model). This comes from the official Land Rover USA press release. The information is still listed inaccurately. When I told the sale rep that the information is from LR USA and its false advertising he just ignored it.

@Moretti they aren't even shy about it anymore.

They might as well just say, "you get what you get and don't throw a fit".

This is true. When the XS model first hit the configurator, and few a few months, the rear lights were pictured as the smoked lights in the X and above. We found out once the order was confirmed and it did not list the XS having smoked lights in the vista detail sheet. Again this was part of the motivator for me making the decision to switch to that model. But you are right...at this point its just be happy you got something...

Man...I really like this vehicle but all the junk about LR's handling of this situation makes me want to look elsewhere.

Rivian R1S. I know the front is ugly but do a deep dive into it with some videos. It's an amazing off-roader with great interior, up to 400 mile range and a 0-60 that beats every SUV on the planet including the Lambo. It's going to be a total sleeper hit!

I have a deposit on one for the wife. $1000 refundable. Due in Early '22. Backed heavily by Amazon and Ford.
