Installed. No issues. Harnesses good quality and pinned correctly -- I like them.
Unlike my recent front bumper bullbar / winch installation project, I am pleased to report 0.0 broken clips and tabs on trim pieces. Even though Powerful UK etc all recommend just "pulling hard" and "prying in the right spot" -- every time I do it, clips break. Even if I apply light heat... they break. It's really quite annoying. This is especially problematic when it's painted pieces that come primed from JLR and need painting. So... the LR official (aluminum certified ie expensive) bodyshop in town who is repainting some new bumper bits (post my break-everything bullbar install) said "spray dish soap in the cracks and that will allow them to pull off without breaking." And darned if they weren't totally correct.
Anyway -- pics. The white reverse lights are bright, but I'll test em tonight.
MY ONLY HESITATION: I don't think the red ring for taillamp/brake lamp is needed. I was going to de-pin these 2 wires in the light connector -- but I couldn't figure it out, it started to rain, so I just put them on as is (very small and fiddly connectors, my kit of tools wouldn't release).
I like them. Just want to ditch the red rings and I didn't want to create issues by just snipping wires (corrosion, ground issues, etc).
(took this after I removed it but spraying liberal dish soap/water solution in the cracks) No broken tabs What the trim piece looks like removed. Will store in garage. PS - Annoyingly clearly the dealer broke this when they replaced the X taillights under recall last year. Wasn't me! Installed (ish) & testing illumination. The red is a slightly different shade (more red than the JLR taillamp which are a bit pinkish by comparison). Left side installed, right side not yet installed. Moving on to the right side, spraying soap solution in the crevasses. Not flush with the vehicle rear -- they protrude a little from the car (which matches the rest of the taillights). I think they'd look better recessed slightly but it ultimately looks OK to me. I like em.
ARE THEY BRIGHT?
Yes, decently bright. A noticeable improvement from stock reverse lamps in illuminating the ground behind the car. I can now see the ground and sides of driveway when backing up whereas before I could not. Rear camera view on the center Pivi screen is more useful. Clearsight mirror camera - not so much (it's more useful for a couple car lengths behind the car anyways).
Low quality pics and dirty car on rainy night here but....
Brake lamps on
HOW DO THEY COMPARE TO THE OTHER AFTERMARKET REVERSE LAMPS?
I've not had the PowerfulUk lamps, so I'm not sure if these are brighter -- or less so -- than those.
WHAT ABOUT THE RED RINGS?
I don't dislike the red rings around the reverse lamps as much as I'd thought. Here's a snap I took in a car park today.. If I saw this and was unfamiliar with the L663, I might think it was a slight model year taillight revision or refresh (think BMW LCI refreshes which are barely noticeable). That's the vibe. But I'll see how I feel after a few weeks. For now I've decided I'm fine with the red rings (which also go brighter w/ brake lamps).
2022 110 SE, Air Suspension, tow mount with electricity (just the mount, not the swing out hook).
I got the left side rear lights cover off (tnx for the soapy tip, nashvegas!) and to my surprise saw this wire:
Unknown wire
Not at all sure what it does and have not seen it mentioned anywhere. The wire on the right comes from the bottom of the lights area and makes this connection on the inside of the cover.
then goes up the cover and terminates here:
I tried but could not get what looks like a QR code to open anything.
In addition, the two-pronged wiring (see photo below) harness does not resemble any photos or videos I’ve seen. This is the only part that comes from up above:
The loom in Simon’s upgrade video comes from the top and is pretty easy to get at. Mine seems to be down below the shelf area and after many attempts I gave up trying to pull it out. There really doesn't seem to be enough room to get it out unless more is dismantled.
I’m really at a loss why mine is not like the others or how to work with the reverse lights set sent from Powerfuluk. I mean, the video seems so straightforward.
@WMN couple of ideas. All hunches, not quite "facts" but maybe helpful:
1) I have read that this is the "cellphone signal booster" but I am not sure. I would have thought my X (fully optioned) would have a cellular booster -- but I didn't have that on mine. Maybe it started in 2021? Anyway, there's an option that is "wireless charging with cellular boost antenna" or something of the sort. I think that's likely it. Do you have that? Those connections to me look like standard car optical / fiber optic cables, like you might find on stereos, amps, instrument cluster, HUD.. .and certain antennas.
2) I had the same issue about where the harness and wiring was. In the PowerfulUK video it's simply up above and he just digs it out. Mine was also stuck completely behind the bumper below. Exactly where yours was. I forgot to mention this in my writeup. That said I was able to get it out as I only needed to put the connector on it. Did you not get a male/female connector to jumper in between where the main plug is?
Good catch! I have an old iPhone so the charging area doesn’t work and I just never thought about the booster. But, indeed, it is there: 026JC Wireless Device Charging w/Phone Signal Booster.
How did you get it out from behind the bumper??? I tried fingers and long needle-nose pliers but stopped as I was fearful of pulling and wiggling too hard, not wanting to break anything.
Is the “main plug” the connector shown in photos 4 & 5 in my post? The one that does come from above? That doesn’t seem right but is the only connector I can actually hold.
This has made me feel like an idiot. I’ve been messing about with ICE vehicles; cars, boats, and one airplane since before most readers were born and this has me perplexed. Maybe I’m getting too old for this and should just enjoy the drive in this most amazing truck
Yep, all you need to do is remove that "main plug" from its two mounting prongs, then disconnect it from itself. (a bit tricky but there is a tab to push).
Do not I repeat do not use pliers or vise grips or anything like a screwdriver to prise or forcibly disconnect these modern LR connector housings. They break / the wires break. Once you depress the right spot, they'll unhook. Also only pull on the connector plastic body, not the wires. (this may be obvious but I am experienced and recently broke my main front radar connector doing just this...)
You're then left with a male end and female end unplugged. Install the corresponsing plug ends you received from Powerful on that, and then you wire the dangly wire bits to your reverse lamps! (which is easy to do off the car / away from the cramped space)
So really - you should be fine. You only need access to the "main plug" in your pics 4/5 above.
