Rowher Flats (CA) OHV
Rowher Flats had been on my bucket list for quite some time, and I finally checked it off last weekend with my Defender 110S (4-cylinder), equipped with Pirelli all-season tires. I didn't even air down. The first few inclines were nerve-wracking, with slopes that appeared to be steeper than 20 degrees. Thankfully, the combination of rock crawl mode and low-range allowed my Defender to tackle these trails with impressive ease.
From the summit, I ventured down toward the Bouquet Reservoir area, where the downhill terrain was even more intense. The declines were incredibly steep—sometimes nearing 30 degrees—and riddled with deep ruts. While it was initially sweat-inducing, I soon realized that my Defender was handling the challenge effortlessly, making the descent feel surprisingly manageable. After this exhilarating experience, I decided to look up the trail ratings and was shocked to learn that the routes I had conquered were classified as black diamond and double black diamond. This left me amazed, especially considering my vehicle's all-season tires and 4 cylinder engine (110S).

Wow! That’s really steep!
I went there a few years back in my Range Rover Sport but was discouraged from trying it by a dude on a motorcycle who was headed back down.
in retrospect it was just Land Rover prejudice. Even though it only had terrain response and no lockers I think I could have done it with a heavy foot and momentum!
gotta go back in the defender soon.
