Hey, I have gators! I even wear knickers skiing from time to time. Then again, our big road hazard when I started skiing was dinosaurs moving slowly from the cold not getting off the road. I really wanted rear tire mounted skis to work, but even my short run, 20 minutes to the slope, gets them filthy. We use volcanic cinder here to help with traction. Gets on everything and turns it black. It is not great for anything, since it is effectively foamed glass. I did end up either tossing them in the back of the car or using the rack mount I modified. The Thule rack is stupidly high on the vehicle, high enough to not fit in my garage. I made it 1" lower and then topped it with some Yakima Fat Cats. I even had to make spacers to lower it as well. So I have about 6 Ångstroms of clearance now. Still won't fit with skies installed. The rack works well, I do need to lower the vehicle to ease access. The lowering of the assembly had the effect of making it a bit quieter. I think the more aerodynamic shape of the Fat Cats helps a bit over the Thule racks I used before, which were too tall and had a big flat surface area thrust into the wind.
