Well I now have my2022 110 and paid for the upgrade to the larger screen. I did have a chance to look at another defender back to back with mine who has the original. We both agreed that the 10" original fits in the interior much better and was clearly done by the entire original design team to integrate the look and feel. The change to the 11.4" was probably market-driven. In reality is has a much bigger viewing area that shows a lot more map area at once and it is a lot different than just 15% bigger. The ratio is totally different. Also, it seems to be faster and higher resolution to the eye. I think that may be the viewing angle, lack of reflection from the top grab handle not being above the 11.4". If you have the choice and were looking at them side by side, I think everyone who values function over form would pick the 11.4. With that said I also think that if form over function is important to you then the 10" is a much better design and looks like it was "designed" not just slapped on the grab bars.
I appreciate your honest and even-handed assessment. So many people “like” whatever they have without acknowledging the good points of “the other thing,” whatever that is.
There's an easy way to retrofit the larger screen but since there's no used ones it's pricey. Like 1800 to 2500 to do it oem. A company in the UK is offering to do it there. I love my large screen.

I tested a 110 with the smaller screen and subsequently ordered the larger screen for model year '22 before they were on the lot to see first hand. IMHO it looks like the dash was built to certain dimensions and then someone said ok now what's the largest screen we can squeeze between these bars, that's the smaller screen. The larger screen has a lot going for it. Even the fact that you're reaching for it probably an inch less since it's bowed outward instead of recessed and then sometimes pressing round icons at the edges that are not exactly large tbh even with the larger screen. Like many options though I wouldn't let the smaller screen deter me from buying a Defender but if I have my choice definitely the larger screen for me. To some extent it's an individual preference with regard to the aesthetics but usability-wise I think it's a no-brainer.
I feel like the even the big screen is too small. When in camera view everything is so small, especially the top down view. Then again I’m coming from a Tesla which had a massive screen. My wife’s Volvo XC90 has a laughably smaller screen.
I have the 10” screen in my 2022 Carpathian Edition 90, and yes it does look nice and does integrate nicely into the dash, BUT….if any of you out there with the 11.4” screen want to trade with me, let me know! I’d be happy to throw in some $$$ as an incentive.
I actually cancelled my original order and waited a few more months for the big screen and the wait was totally worth it. Both the form and function are brilliant.
Form: the curvature of the screen aligns beautifully with the curvature of the cross bar/dash. The top and the bottom leading edge of the screen lines up nicely with the stitchings on the cross bar. Just because it’s not sitting in between the cross bar does not make the design less aesthetically pleasing. It’s a different design cue. Its “floating” appearance expresses modernity which is consistent with the rest of the design language of the vehicle.
Function: full screen navigation, easier access to the touch screen as it’s bigger and closer to the driver, 3d camera views and the display looks gorgeous particularly in low light condition and at night.
