Default Smart Key Deactivated

Woke up to a fun fire drill this morning as my wife was not able to start the 130 due the aforementioned warning in the subject line, which prevented the vehicle from starting. Per a quick google I was able to resolve by fetching the spare key and starting the car successfully with it. Apparently there is logic built into the car where if a given smart key is inside while the car is locked from another key (or potentially the In-Control App?) then that key is deactivated, presumably the prevent grand theft? Wanted everyone elses experience with this as I didn't see any explicit threads on the topic per a quick search.

cliffhanger!!!! Can't wait for Part 2... the reveal!

seriously though... did the other key start working, or is this one of those "and I had to go to the dealer and pay $xxx to reprogram the key that was left in the car"

Cliffhanger resolved, the original key is working again after I started the car previously with the spare. From what I've read elsewhere now about this feature, that seems to be how the system/security feature works. Once you've started the car with another key or the In-Control app, the original key should work again. Mildly annoying in my opinion but I do get the logic behind the feature...

We had this issue (left my wifes key in the car when I locked it with my key to perform a software update)... we got the key working again, and it seems to "work" because you can start the car. But what is interesting is that since being deactivated/activated, they key doesn't want to be recognized when trying to unlock with the door handle. You have to pull it out and unlock the door with the button. No issues with our other key, just the one that was deactivated. New batteries in the key made no difference. Just annoying at the moment... I will have the dealer check it out at next service.
