Steering wheel locked, but the rest seems ok.
DEFINITELY report these locking steering wheels to NHTSA. If you don't know how or don't find the threads re: how to report, just tag me on a post and I'll send a link. Traveling right now or I would already.
Whoa -- Steering gear, steering gear ECU and a wheel alignment ..... big money.
EITHER JLR doesn't know what this is and the dealer had time on their hands for a high cost warranty reimbursement
OR JLR knows that when the ECU fails, the sensors are not effective and the steering gear overdrives itself so much it can push the front out of alignment.
Or maybe not?

This just happened to our brand new defender. My husband was trying to leave for work but couldn't go. Left a message with service but trying to google if this has happened to other defender owners. the motor has also just died at red lights a few times, us having to restart the car with angry drivers behind us...
@LKJBAY - I think this was posted on another thread. They had to have it towed to the dealer. It was something to do with the steering wheel controller. I distinctly remember they couldn't fix/cure it on their own. Do a search on Defender Recovery as having these towed is usually not a standard affair.
EDIT: Attached a PDF version of it.
Also make sure to log a complaint to the NHTSA.gov (Link) as this is CRAZY dangerous when it happens to owners on the roads.

It's a tow away for most, and I know Muppetry's battery disconnect may work, but the dealership also does a diagnostic and reset of any faulty codes. plus they're made aware of the problem. I hope yours fixed. I'm really interested to know what your dealership says.
OK, thanks so much for your answer. Will reply again once we know what dealership says. When hybrid engine would completely die at red lights they said it was the battery and they fixed it. But it sill happened two times after they fixed. And now this!
