Defender was in the shop last week. They tried the fix (unsuccessfully) and now I'm waiting for new seals (they are replacing both sides even though the passenger rear door works fine). Seals will take a couple weeks to get here as they are on backorder.
Got an oil change while I was in there. 2.5 months and I have 10,200 miles on the 110. Having fun driving it!
I have the same problem on my 23.5 defender. My 6 year old has a hell of a time opening the drivers side rear door. I thought it was just because he was little, nope it’s noticeably a lot harder to open than the other doors.
I found a revised bulletin from earlier this year. Obviously still a challenge for them!
JLRTB02052NAS2
This bulletin supersedes TSB JLRTB02052NAS1/2020 dated 16 SEP 2020, which should
either be destroyed or clearly marked to show it is no longer valid (e.g. with a line across the
page). Only refer to the electronic version of this Technical Bulletin in TOPIx.
Unbelievably, I have the same issue with mine. It is a model year 2024, delivered in December 2023. I would have thought this issue would’ve been resolved by now. It only affects the driver side rear door and only and if it has been raining. Otherwise, it operates mostly normally - maybe a little bit of pull but not difficult to open when dry. But my question is does the warranty fix affect the alignment of the signature graphic square panel that on mine is the same body color as the vehicle and resides in between the rear doors and the C pillar? I have perfect alignment on mine on both sides and I would hate to lose that due to a fix in the warranty shop. Please advise!
@Hermes048 In my case, the exterior signature panel (the painted square/rectangle) was not touched in the fix. Only the rubber seals are reworked.
I did read the TSB awhile ago, and one of the recommendations is realigning doors if needed as a first step, but I don't think most or any of them need that. The issue here is with a rubber seal.
For me the fix was to stick some good double sided tape behind the seal. The issue is the outermost edge of the seal catches. The tap rotates the seal allowing for clearance. Driver side rear door was very difficult to open before applying some tape. I can take some pics if anyone needs them. I also applied tape to my passenger rear door. The seal wasn't causing issues, it just came loose and was flapping in the wind. Worth a try before leaving it with the dealer for 3 weeks.

First pic is where I put the double sided tape. Luckily I used white tape so it is visible. The tape is around 2mm thick and 12mm wide. The second pic is the edge of the seal (in the green box) that catches on the rear glass. The goal is to keep the seal edge from catching the rear glass.
Thanks for the pics, Zac. So, it looks like your easy solution was to wedge some double-sided tape into the space behind the interior vertical rubber seal that is closest to the edge of the rear door to prevent the seal from catching on the glass when it’s opened in rain. I think I might try that myself first before submitting to a dealer fix. Sounds easy enough!
Question: is your second pic to show how the seal juncture looks after you have installed the double sided tape?
