Sweet Smell from Engine
I just picked up my Defender from the dealer for my final service under factory warranty. They replaced my driver's side auxiliary radiator. There was a tiny pinhole leak that was caused by a rock hitting the radiator, presumably kicked up by a semi truck. They said that the leak was so small, it would probably take months for the coolant level to significantly drop.
The aux radiator on the drivers was replaced and had a small but visible leak. I can still smell some sweet fumes, however, so when I take it back for another small repair (part on backorder) I'm going to ask them to double-check. I've had some people say the sweet smell is common even without a leak; they did perform a pressure test etc.
I am not sure about sweet smell is common. The only time you should be smelling that is if there is free coolant somewhere in the engine bay.
I have had my Defender from 2020 and when i smelled the sweet smell it was the inlet to the turbo. Took them a while to find it.
