Well, yeah ... "nobody" wants a diesel because is too efficient. Why do you think trucks and locomotives are using diesel engines.
Being too efficient is detrimental to Oil Companies ( you use less ), you get taxed less at the pump, because you drive more with a tank than a gas tank, 35-38% more, and that the engine last longer, a LOT longer (unless is a MB made after 2000s).
Now, as for MB - that is a different story. The 3.2L MB engines are horrible, notorious for oil leaks, and really, not going over 100k miles. How do I know ? I had 4 MLs and GL. Every single one was a money pit and a disaster. Not because diesel is bad, but because they cut corners on them, and had major design flaws. Hope yours is better. I told my wife: if you ever see me in a MB, call the cops. It means I was kidnapped and held at gunpoint. I used to love them ( when they work ) but there isn't a car that I hate most these days.

Another vote for different color palate choices, all non-metallic and offered with contrasting white roof: Coniston or Bronze Green, Pastel Green, Arles Blue, Royal Navy Blue, Poppy Red, Limestone

Oh man Pastel Green! Not sure how it would translate to the new land whale version but who doesn't love that color?

double thumbs up for a Diesel model. My RRS was diesel and I loved the extra range + mileage.

@_Allegedly - You should have marked that NSFW I enjoyed it so much!!! Man I remember the beast it was to take the top off of my 2a, but boy it was fun that way in the summer. I would love a topless version, but after seeing a topless Rover last week - not so sure....

If they offered the Plug in Hybrid option I'd be very interested in that. I would also like to see a higher level of autonomous driving (i.e. like Volvo Pilot Assist) and agree with the comments on more colors!

This would be awesome but I think it would be too costly and/or difficult to navigate US green narrative. Even so we all know diesels are more efficient.

I cant say if the lack of diesel vehicles sold in the USA is a conspiracy from the oil companies or its a combination of poor marketing, poor sales service, stigma from older less environmentally friendly engines etc. LR has sold diesel engines in NA but recently dropped the discovery diesel option citing low sales. LR makes diesel defenders for about everywhere else in the world.

hen I went to first view the defender late last year my first question had to do with NA diesel availability. The dealer stated they had no idea and not heard anything about it. When my my21 order got switched to a my22 order and the p400 hybrid engine was rumored to becoming to NA I was excited to go down that route, but alas it did not make it either.

Diesel vehicles have great range which is why long haul trucks use it and why those types of vehicles switching to electric will probably be one of the last.

FWIW my MB is a 3.0l diesel . It is still under 100k. Its range and economy has been awesome.

I think a pickup would be awesome but as much as they said that it is coming our way, I don't think it would happen. I think of the MB pickup that never took off. If it does, I will be adding it to the family collection

2a's are the most soulful and enjoyable torture I can imagine in this world.
