Default Who runs the LR online systems really ?

I have found this info on a forum in Europe. I have no idea if this is 100% accurate or still actual ( I presume is is):

" The cars [JLRs] all connect to Landrover via Google [ servers ] - Land Rover online systems are provided by a Company called Wirelesscar which was set up by Volvo. Providing systems like Volvo on Call, and Land Rover in control. A majority of the company 75%, was bought by VW a couple of years ago. And they provide services to all the VW group, Landrover ,Volvo , BMW, Fiat and a few others."

Does any one have any knowledge of this ?

That's who does the QA.
I worked 12 years for a software dev company. China eventually does the dev, India does the QA and the USA does the eventual downsizing of whatever remains onshore that made it a successful business in the first place. Brits have some fantastic dev teams though, especially in gaming, I doubt they're doing the incontrol stuff in the UK but maybe... and servers are probably just amazon or azure hosted. I'm betting the connectivity issues I have every few days are the app, not the servers.

Yes, InControl seems like a bad "lost in translation" app .... could have been so much better.
Servers, are Google - which explains a lot.

I’ve really not had any issues with the InControl remote, other than lack of functionality that I think it should have. I use the remote start every day and remote lock/unlock frequently. It was hit and miss in our old F-Pace, but so was the entire InControl system in the early days.

The only issue in the Defender I recall was a “Failed to start engine” message which turned out to be because the car was unlocked. Obviously, it should have posted a more relevant message. When switching to the door lock tab I could see the doors were unlocked. After locking, I could then start the car. So that is the only issue for me.

Mechano2020:

Being non-aware of any details on these internet type topics, but aware of the Google name (I am a very pleased Chrome user), I wonder what else I can learn regarding your comment regarding Google hosting the JLR servers?

Thanks.

Personally, I believe that there is a vast chasm of differences between the servers that host the application server processing and the developers who created technologies the Defender (and JLR?) runs on. Google, AWS, etc. all have some set of uptime measured in 9's that fail at various times. I'm not enough of a fan of any of them to think one is materially better than another. Often failures of these cloud platforms comes out as poor implementations (security or otherwise) or configurations. To me what is totally a shame/sham is how bad the technology is written/developed. All the problems with PiviPro, gremlins in the various controllers, crap that doesn't work, mystery things needing to be reflashed at the dealer, yada yada yada. This is not failures of the platform hosted wherever. This is not wear & tear of components that needs to be replaced. This is just (as they say in the industry) "****ty code".

I can accept the comments folks are making re: Google and some of the challenges recently with registering. But what bothers me is that what I typically see is just bad software development on controllers & interfaces.
