I searched but didn't find anything on this; if someone has discussed it here before please just point me to the thread.

I have a 2023 110S on order; my dealer says it should be built in May and arrive in July. Hoping that holds.

I've heard the horror stories about the cracking windshields. I mentioned that to my dealer, and he said they had a good option for me:

"Sure.. the product is applied as a liquid after the windshield is prepped (stripped clean) for the application. I’m not sure but I believe it’s a 2 step application. If the windshield gets a chip it would pay for the repair. If the windshield is not repairable it pays for the cost of a replacement windshield for 5 years. The cost is $699."

I asked him what it was called; he replied: "DOWC WINDSHIELD PROTECTION PLAN"

Have any of you ever heard of this? I googled DOWC; it's "dealer owned warranty company" but I can't find a reference to the liquid on their website.

If it's really just $699, that might be a good investment - much cheaper than repeatedly replacing the windshield, especially if you get the cold weather pack.

Sadly not one of the ones listed. I used to live in Massachusetts and enjoyed the free replacements. But I'm in Pennsylvania now, with a $500 deductible. I once had to pay $500 for a new windshield for a dealer loaner I had while the dealer was servicing my Subaru. Frustrating.

 

I'm not sure I believe in any of these windshield protection things that go on as a liquid. This almost sounds like more of a $699 5-year windshield insurance plan, regardless of how they dress it up. It may still be worth it... there is a crazy amount of road debris these days and just today I heard two stones hit the windshield. So far only a few small nicks, but I cringe every time and even lowered my deductible already. My last car had 2 replacements in 5 years so I'm not unfamiliar with the issue.

 

I don’t have specific experience with that product. But the smartest car decision I ever made was adjusting my insurance to a $100 deductible for glass. Not quite zero, but close enough that a windshield replacement isn’t a big deal.

I had a rock chip on my 110 windshield that had to be replaced. It was a big rock, so no blame on the car. But with the heated windshield I think it would have been something like $1,500 to pay out of pocket, but walked out for $100.

 

Thanks - sounds like great advice. I'll check with my insurance to see what that would cost. Might be cheaper over the five years than the cost of the dealer installed sealant and warranty.
