Default New D1 owner - This is why I am falling in love with it :D

Hello all, I am new to this forum, new to forums in general, and new to owning a Land Rover! So far I am loving it. I sold my 2002 Ford Danger Ranger 2x4 and picked up a 1998 D1 on August 31st of this year. In less than 2 weeks I was able to pull someone out that ran off the highway here in San Diego (the 52 westbound for anyone who lives in, or knows, the area). Since my Danger Ranger was only a 2x4, this is not something I am accustomed to, but jumped on the opportunity once I saw that this guy was stuck and slowing down traffic during rush hour. Land Rover D1 to the rescue! haha! Can't wait to come to the rescue more often! Also I'm looking forward to learning from and hopefully contributing to this community.

Great job. Also check out free download of the shop an owners manual, called the RAVE, at links below.

Welcome aboard! Research, research, crawl under it, and spend your money as slowly as possible on upgrades, because you will need to have some for repairs.

Also, a note of caution on assisting in recovery or pulling vehicles out. I had some more knowledgeable guys than I, advise me to discuss the recovery point that will be used on the stranded vehicle that is not yours, but let the person you are assisting actually do the attaching of the D-Shackle or Tow Strap on their vehicle and let them make the final decision on where to attached it on their vehicle. This is to protect you from being at fault if that recover point happens to fail or break and cause damage of some sort to the vehicle or any body parts that may be in the area of the recovery point. Crazy world we live in! Again, welcome aboard!

Be REALLY Careful how you pull others out.

And learn the vehicle very well, things like how the CDL works and whether yours does engage correctly or not before you find yourself in a mess.
