Oh, and l made it with three cigars to spare. You are only allowed to bring 50 accross the border duty free. Now, l have to find black and mild cigars tomorrow!!!
Did the Dalton Hwy to arctic circle a few days ago. Having lunch at the Yukon river here. Epic ride, more of an 'alaskan' feel to it, being gravel after a short ways. A lot of road paving going on, so that will eventually change for the good...or bad, imo. The scenery along the Dalton was spectacular, huge valleys that just blew your mind. Highly recommended.
Well, needed another oil change a couple days ago...so, had a garage in Alaska handle it, 4.5 hours later, yes, you read that right, and a dozen questions...left me somewhat nervous about his abilities. Well...stopped at camp tonight and notice rear diff wet. Been dry all a long. Looked under her and the plug is about to fall INTO, not OUT OF the axle housing. Took it out with my fingers. The guy must have over tighten it and took the taper out of the axle housing threads...it's a pipe-thread, tapered. So, field repair was in order, took flatblade screw driver and staked around the hole, forcing metal inward, then took a mechanics glove finger and put it over plug, spun in somewhat tighter. After snugging it, best feel, staked it again at seven different spots and marked it so l can see if there is any movement. I'm going to stick a piece of magnet tape l have across it, to ensure it doesn't go anywhere if it does loosen up. Now, l'll have to keep an eye on that...thank oil change man! After finding this, wanting to check up on his other work, l tried removing the trans fill plug...OMG...it took eveything l had to break it lose. I'm surprised he didn't crack the case.
Had the oil changed in Alberta, Canada and the old dude there did a great job.
Been home a couple days, had to cut trip a bit short. My wife had got me a retirement gift (below) while l was gone, and this wasn't going to affect my trip...but then she had some issues to get sorted with her mom. So, she needed me home
Dalton (named after the Dalton Hwy, which was the highlight of Alaska trip)
Anyhow, after a 15, 8, 14 and 5 hour days behind the windshield...l'm home. Trip was once in a lifetime, especially in the 110.
