Fit nicely behind the brush guard. I'd welded some tabs on while making brush guard, but thought they'd not work. But, the lights bolted right up.
Need to finish wiring. Modified the grill, so it will come out without removing lights or brush guard. Now, I can get to top of winch (electrical connections) by removing a couple screws.
Thanks. And, yeah some of these "DYI" are the "minimalist" in me coming out, on steriods. However, I've noticed a trend here that I don't see on other boards...folks come along, dump tons of time, energy and funds into these rigs...only to be gone in a few months or year. Always makes me wonder if they did all of these upgrades and such...and the engine blew or something else pushed them over the edge (and end up walking away)?
Anyhow, I'm having fun with it and never take it to serious...and try to keep costs in check. Plus, I've got two cars, my wife's Dll and my daily (silverado) eating away at my bank account as it is. This thing is to cure my insanity, not cause it like the other topic going on in the Dll section. It's nice to work on something I really don't have to care about, drop a wrench on the fender, no biggy, ram the jack stand into the side of it, no biggy, etc, etc. Now my cars on the otherhand, my guts get all twisted up whenever I do something stupid...as minor as putting a tinny blemish in the paint.
This thing causes me all kinds of insanity. Things have to go prefectly...or it costs you big time.
My rover actually suits me better. Want a blacked out hood, grab some tape and a spray bomb...done. Want a snorkel, some pipe and a few cuts/drill holes in the body...done. Sure, some folks might think it looks like a piece of crap...actually been told that on the discoweb.org forum...lol...but I don't care. I'm doing this "for something to do".
Anyhow, hope to be a part of the rover community for a long while...for sanity sake.
Seeing the original pictures compared to the photos on the last page (super nice) makes me excited to get in to this. There is something incredible about working on any kind of vehicle and making it yours- I also on occasion build rigid frame Harleys and preunit Triumph bobbers whenever I run in to a lil lost project.
I personally love British vehicles like the Triumph bikes, old Enfields, Norton, Jaguars, LRs and of course Mclarens of all flavors etc. Speaking of which I'll be in London end of Feb for work and my buddy and our office GM out there has a Mclaren he is here now and we'll be taking a few days to drive around England in his Mclaren. I am super excited..
Anyhow, I just wanted to say I can appreciate the effort you put in to this and I know you are very proud of it.
PS my dad was stationed at KI Sawyer a long time ago when I was a kid I love Michigan. One of my investigators is originally from Lansing and another from Mackinac which is one of my favorite places in the world.

My son went to Northern Michigan University, why I do not know...colder than he** up there for to many months out of the year...but anyhow, spent some time north of there in Big Bay on the triple A road and northwestern trail. Want to get back up there with the rover, since we had to turn around when we encountered a section of the trail that ran along the top of a beaver dam. The astro van was doing okay...but I knew it's limits.
Mackinac island is my wife's favorite spot, says she could live there, me...not so much. We stayed for a week once, about went out of my mind...not being able to go for a drive (although, whomever parked my car in over night storage lot, enjoyed driving my car while we were there, burned a half a tank...lol) and having to pedal bike everywhere. Which, I like biking...but for enjoyment...not necessity. The day we left, wife says, "to bad we have to leave." Me, l'm on a dead run for the dock with my bags in tow...trying to catch the first ferry to the main land.
Hey Brian I’m. Big fan of the 928’s. I sold a convertible 911 when my wife got pregnant with our 3rd kid. I promised myself I’d replace it one day with a black 928. Hope you enjoy yours.
It is way easier to work on and mod off-road trucks, I used to be into mustangs before my 911, they were fun but I found I was a lot pickier with what I did. Heck, i remember having a weekly wax ritual with my cobra. Even tho I like my rover fairly clean they still look good dirty. Lol
Funny, each one of my 928's I drive without thought of making it where l'm going (ones 40, other is 34 years old). But each time l reach the end of the driveway in the rover, either the 01 or 03...my eyes search the vehicle for an extra coat, boots, hat and gloves incase a walk is in the near future.
