well, I was going through my big box of bits. took a shopping list of stuff I do not have, yet.
cam bearing is on the list. ab has a closeout on unfinished..........but then I saw that they have a finished set. how does that work? what gives? are they saying that it is pre sized and a universal, with in spec, option?

 

4.6 crank and rods. pistons 4.0

 

can't say for sure about the cam bearings, i have alway just have the machine shop replace them; after hot tanking they are junk anyway. what did you have chevy valves and beehive spring installed in the heads? i assume you are going to gasket match the heads and intake, if so make sure you have a couple gaskets you dont want to open them to only fit one set.

 

i did see ab has a newer type of cam bearing, perhaps it will help with the oil pressure loss on #7 & 8.

 

yes sbc valves. 41.4mm intake 35.5 exhaust
no beehive. crower tung. dual springs were used. the numbers worked great. Valve Springs . machine shop did a great job fitting the larger diameters.
cam is crower 53231



yes I will gasket match...would hate to defeat the matching that was done.

 

just talked to a plaid suit at ab. they said that bearing set is ready to install.
I didn't think you could universally fit cam bearings. is this possible? if so, easy solution

 

the new cam should have a xyz size mains and the the inside dia. of the new bearing shell is xyz, i guess you can just remove and install stock dia. bearing shells.
i suppose if you have not done a lot of line boring on the block, it should be ok.

 

okay. just pulled the trigger on the finished set. needed a rear main, too.

 

rear seal......better results with genuine or is there a better aftermarket?

 

wont know but i would rtv it and the crucifix seals
