Well I didn’t wheel the XD as much as I had hoped to. It was not the LR’s fault, but the shocks I ordered from 4WP. I specifically ordered them by the length, but apparently Pro Comp measures their shocks differently.. I am running without sway bars so out on the trail my rear coils were constantly falling out and digging into the tires badly. I popped em back in and even tried a hose clamp to hold them into place but it was just a constant battle. I parked it, and rode with friends for the rest of the event.
The event was awesome and I won a brand new Hi-Lift Jack!!!
After the rally I went to go see my friends at Austin Roverworks. I had them order a set of rear TF relocation cones, and I also ordered a new filler neck vent hose & filler hose (vent hose was cracked & I smelled fuel). It all came in on Wednesday and I got it all installed.
No more coils will be popping out it flexes extremely well now (have TF extended brake lines as well).
I also won an AlliSport Aluminum P/S reservoir for a RRC/D1/D90/D110. I got it installed today and I also found the cause for all the slop in the steering. OEM steering shaft bolt was loose & stripped. I simply drilled it out on both ends and installed a longer bolt and installed a washer & locknut. Tightened it up and no more slop!
Well the old gal finally had to have an issue. Went to take her into town, stopped and topped off the tank. Noticed a small puddle near where the AC would drain except I didn't have the AC on. It was coolant, popped the hood and the coolant tank was lower than usual. It appears the HG on the passenger side is leaking externally. So I'll have to tear into that when I have time. I've been wanting to install a new front cover and gasket for a while now as it was seeping oil, but I think I'll save it for when I have it all apart.
I tore into the XD over the holiday weekend and I got it torn down on Saturday, then stopped to help a friend get his dead 4.0L hanging in by just 2 bolts. Then on Sunday I cleaned up all my parts and got prepped for the re-install. Today I got the heads back on, rocker arms, rods, valley pan gasket, and lower intake. I helped my friend get the dead 4.0L completely out. I'm going to get some aircraft remover for the valve covers, and then slap them on sometime this week and finish her up!
HG job is complete. Cycled the engine a few times without fuel, then connected the fuel pump relay, checked for leaks, and then fired it up. She was loud for a little bit but it eventually quieted down. However once it reached 188F she has a little squeak from either a rocker arm, pushrod, or a lifter. I had totally cleaned the heads, rocker arms, and pushrods. I lightly coated em with oil, and I have oil pressure. Gonna just see if it'll quiet itself, and if not I'll order some new pushrods, and lifters for it. At least it's no longer pissing coolant all over the place!!!!
I ran her a bit more the other day and the internal squeak was still there. I then let it sit all week until today, I cranked it up and let it warm up. I revved it up several times, and it ran nearly 25-30min without a sound. I'm thinking oil finally got back into the rockers fully and the lifters. Sounded excellent and I'm gonna put some miles on it and go from there.
