The Green bastard
I got up super early before the wife and kids and went and tore the 4.6 down to bare block, loaded everything up into the back of the p38 to take to the machinist. I’m away again for the next 2 weeks, I might just have him assemble the whole bottom end. He’s a performance guy, into racing, says he could do a simple port job for 200.00. Any thoughts if it’s worth it? I’ll be running a cam and headers.
Bolt in?? Or will you need custom exhaust?
I ask because I'm not done port matching my lower intake to heads, and heads to exhaust manifolds.
The aluminum cuts easy with a Dremel and titanium bits, but I've yet to try it on the cast iron manifolds.
I have already marked them, and there's alot of material to be removed, and potential gains to go with my Crower cam and new total rebuild.
Trying to get the most out of this thing.
Thanks
Lots of clearance for the axle
2 into 1 muffler from the headers
From the hedman headers
Custom exhaust with no cats, cel eliminators, now no check engine lights or codes. I replaced 1 o2 sensor and reconnected the plug on the other. Lol. Easy peasy
I’ve had a little bit more time to play with the new stereo, my iPhones gps works great thru the radio, full display and sound, watching movies thru memory sticks is awesome for the kids, you can mirror your iPhone to the screen but not all apps seem to be able to rotate Sideways on the display.
I cannot get movies from apple to play thru my phone tho.
The biggest downer is the radio volume is pretty moderate on its lowest setting, I wish I could lower it some. Music from Bluetooth or sound from USB is adjustable lower. Weird.
still quite happy for the money. Actually really happy.

Well I’m finally finished my training, have another week of catching up and than I can finally get working on my disco again. I need proper O2 bungs for the exhaust. The shop that did my exhaust used some nuts that aren’t the correct thread. It’s running open loop at the moment. Not cool.
I think I’ll retire the out put on my stereo to 5v preout. Hopefully that cures the volume issue.
The 4.6 is still at the machine shop. He’s thinking it won’t be done by Christmas 😒

Well I had a job in Ohio yesterday, it was only 10 minutes from trail head 4x4, I had planned to stop in but my easy peasy job went for ****. Should’ve been 2 hrs turned into 6. All well. Maybe next time.
Yeah it would be nice to garner info from an expert. Lots of questions. Lol
i stopped in at the machine shop that has my motor to see how he’s making out. He recommends new valve springs, mine are measuring 68 lbs. I’m wondering if I should get crower springs since I have the cam and lifters?
he also recommends using brass freeze plugs over the bearmach steel ones I have?
the exhaust porting should help a ton he says. He’s also going to “undercut the intake valves” for the longer duration of the cam.
getting excited but not sure if it’ll be done by Christmas

Where do you get brass freeze plugs for it?
I would prefer those too, as other than some cleaning, putting the new steel freeze plugs I have in my block is the next step in my rebuild.
I need to measure their o.d and depth and see if they are a common size.
Maybe I can find brass freeze plugs cheap.
I'm glad you mentioned that, thanks.

They must be common, he walked over to a bench , pulled a out a box full of different sizes and found the right size in seconds. He says the brass will match the aluminum better in thermal expansion.
Yes, it will
