Well I have to much friction, no matter what I tried I couldn't get the fan clutch to break loose. I snapped of a craftsman screw driver I was using to try and jam the pulley with belt on so it wouldn't turn. I tried the wrench and hitting it for hours. I tried everything I could think of until I ran out of light to work by.

I hate that fan clutch it is the bane of my exisitence

my easy off method = sheath from a hatchet/axe in between the pulley and belt. the one I use is angled from (essentially) zero to 3 inches. I have fed it in at least 20 times and it is a one hit wonder.

I tried a rag like I saw suggested with no luck, not sure if I have a sheath but I do have an ax I considered briefly....

whatever works!
wood shims?
if you have a stubborn one and you go the tension route, it is better to have a wedge type apparatus

Or use a tool that captures the studs like the LR tool does. There are some threads that include dimensions to make your own. I was able to get mine off using some 3/4 inch heater hose jammed in there.

You reminded me to check mine and BINGO, wobbling big time. Would've been blade/belt salad in my near future. I used anti-seize last time so couple of shots with a chisel and hand spun right off...... Pump bearing still good, tight. If I'd waited any longer I'd be replacing that too. First time I changed an original clutch I used a torch to swell the nut.

LOL..... Took longer to unbolt the blades from the clutch, I think a whole minute.
