Slowest forum I've ever been on, but hey.......easy to keep up that way!
Logging on is the worst, smothered in ad's and bull shiat....but hey, it's LR.

Soooooooo, these land rover water pumps just decide to get drunk and fail out of no where??? Should I be surprised?
Everything has been fine, today......6 mile drive to the hardware store.....all is good, start it up.......WTF???......go over to the gas station, lift the hood.....fan is looking and sounding like it's been on a 3 day bender at the pub......WTF?

1/8 of a mile later.......there goes the belt.......another 1/8 temps exceed reasonable levels............it sleeps on a roll back tonight......

Guess I get to do the whole cooling system at once now, water pump felt left out.....boooohooooooo...... learning to lower my expectations...yet again.....

Feeling lucky I was local, we were considering a N. Carolina road trip this weekend.....but, hurricane Mathew cancelled those plans and now this.

Right back where I started on page 1 or 2..........Rolling easy-bake oven sitting in driveway.

I did have 'one' sign I guess looking back........pulled it out of the shop about a week ago......there on the floor was a 'single' drop of what almost looked like blood under the front end area.......Hmmm, that's odd I thought. I guess it was some sort of 'rusty-corroded-water-drip'.....but my fluid was clear. It came from the bearing/seal area, it's all over the place now......lovely.

The first warning my water pump gave was on cold start up leaving work. I could tell that the fan was rotating off center from the vibration inside the truck. By the time I got home it was toast and I'd developed a major coolant leak at the pump. fun times.

Thanks for the input Robert, I'm seeing a trend here........
No cold start issue on my end.....
But...
Drunk fan between stores, then boom...Once the vibe started, I maybe traveled a 1/2 mile.

On a positive note, Brian my roll back guy really likes it.......(insert evil smilie here).....Once fixed, maybe I'll polish it up and unload it on him!

That is what alerted me as well. Fan noise.

Fan noise/vibration to full failure........about a 1/2 mile in my case.

Might try to bake brownies on the dash today, mix it up a bit.
Tomorrow, hot wings if it gets warm enough......

I had lots of warning on an OE pump. Checked the shaft bearing while doing an oil change (lifted it up by the fan with belt attached (hint/hint)) and it took another 1k before I replaced it. Never leaked, only chirped because the impeller skimmed the volute housing..... it was that far gone. Thought it was my compressor clutch. Same sort of warning with the original, bearing worn but never leaked and was replaced before catastrophe...... (hint/hint).

Well.......I never checked mine, I know better.......but guilty of not messing with it at any time, even during belt changes.

New one showed up today, along with the belt!
So shiny & clean.......almost sinful.
Guess at some point, I'll be wrenching soon....

Brownies came out pretty good today!!
